Duquette - "We'll be active on the trade front." (Buyers)

Will Smith is a good candidate. As someone else said, Drake's control needs to get better. It was not good at the ML level and he's been poor with it down in Norfolk lately despite dominant numbers otherwise.

Beat me to it.

That guy's kind of a beast. Jake McGee part deux.

No argument. As we know, though, you generally don't get to an impactful return by piecing together a big collection of non-impactful pieces. Fortunately, I don't think Baltimore is out there trying to reel in Cole Hamels, and there is certainly enough in the system to get a lefty reliever if that's what Baltimore wants.

You don't get impact pieces by pooling a bunch of mediocre talent (i.e. video game trades where five one-star prospects equal one five-star prospect). But you might get a three-month rental of a good player for a couple of moderately decent prospects.

I don't see that we have a lot of glaring needs other than a TOR starting pitcher. If we don't have the ammunition for that, I think anything else we do is only going to be a marginal improvement. We're third in runs scored per game, third in bullpen ERA and have a solid defense.

Yeah. I don't see where else we will be upgrading. I guess Dan could always get another lock down bullpen piece.

Sure. I don't have a good feel for "good player" or "moderately decent prospects", but there are definitely plenty of trades every year that don't involve "wow" players on either side.

We might not have "prospect" depth at Norfolk we do have a bunch of MLB quality depth.

Steve Clevenger- Catcher hitting .340 in AAA

Pedro Borbon- Could be starting for a few teams in CF.

Rey Navarro- MLB level utility guy.

Paul Janish- Defensive whiz as SS

Dariel Alvarez- Plus defense with some pop

Mike Wright

Tyler Wilson

TJ Mac

Gamboa-knuckleballer just chilling in AAA

Cesar Cabral- Lefty

Wesley Wright-Lefty

Pat McCoy-Lefty

Steve Johnson

Oliver Drake

These are guys that other contending teams would be looking to go out and trade for to help a run.

This isn't true. These are not the types of players that contending teams trade for. They want actual proven major leaguers who will legitimately help the team, not the likes of Gamboa, Borbon, and Navarro.

Contending teams aren't beating down the door for the Orioles' Triple-A roster fillers. They have their own farm systems with players similar to these. The O's are pretty light on actual prospects right now.

Ding ding. And that's what we can expect.

It's inconceivable (and yes, that word means what I think it means) that a good MLB team would go out and target a Rey Navarro or a Dariel Alvarez as the piece they need to make a run in September.

...and many of you would have had Eduardo Rodriguez on your "sarcastic" list of the Orioles' deep talent pool at the trade deadline last year. Yet, DD turned him into an invaluable piece down the stretch, and he may actually pan out in Boston.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. That cliche proves true every year at the trade deadline.

Bottom line: The Orioles have many, many more pieces to move around than you all are giving credit for.

Many had Top 100 prospect Eduardo Rodriguez on a sarcastic list? Is that why so many were opposed to the deal the minute it went down? Come on...

    • Adley was a nearly finished product when picked, if not for tradition and service time stuff he could have been in the majors shortly after he left college. Gunnar needed 1000+ minor league plate appearances as a high school pick. Ask this same question about the 1990-2017 Orioles with their development system. They certainly could have found a way to screw up Gunnar, would have been harder with Adley.
    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.

    • Was reading Wiggins write up on ESPN. He appears to be more of a home run threat than Koolaid. He had a pick 6 each of the last 2 years.
    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
