Os Sign O'Day for 4 Years - It's official

Nevermore

Competitive, in who's eyes? I've heard this before, and it's only competitive to the O's. I hope this year is different.....

Well, evidently Crasnick's source thinks it is. Sounds like it is not the most money on the table. So you got that.

DD can't pull the trigger on this it's to complicated for him. Why is it that teams are

planning and deciding there future for 2016 and the O's can't get out of the gate.

This is the fate of the winter meetings a lot of mumble.

I'm not sure what that is, but it's not a Haiku.

As much as I like O'Day, resigning him would just be a knife in the stomach knowing we are using 20 to 25 mil in payroll space on two of our most replaceable areas (catcher and bullpen) while we have so many other areas in desperate need (SP, RF, LF, 1B/DH).

The guy has been so good. On the one hand, I think it's crazy to spend more than $7 mm/yr on a set-up guy. On the other hand, the guy has been tremendous in every respect. I think I'll have angst about this no matter what happens.

You know, instead of having angst no matter what, you could be happy no matter what. It's healthier in the long run. :)

Next to NYC it's the best rung on the career ladder. Other cities would be a step down.

Yea this is accurate from my understanding. It would be a bad move for her to relocate unless it was to NY. The players do have to consider their families when making a move. I know the money is important, but I imagine her career is very important to her as well. Whether he takes a little less to come back or go to DC, it won't kill them financially.

Do you complain about everything? Do you understand how negotiations work?

Playing on the West Coast is great. But most of the fans don't see you play live. It matters in other ways.

Personal choice of course but I will take a blown lead over the starter giving up a six spot in the first inning every day of the week.

Yeah, personal choice is right. I just loathe losing a late lead. If we get shelled early I just write it off as "one of those games," but losing the lead late just feels like robbery. I have trouble sleeping after those games, whereas I just tune out of the games that get out of control early.

I don't see where many team have decided their future for 2016. Who of significance has been signed, other than Zimmermann and Happ? If the O's have done nothing by the end of the winter meetings while a lot of deals have been closed, it will be time for the annual whine-fest. But at this point, the O's are no different than most teams.

With me I feel like I get shorted out of a couple of innings when they blow a lead. If they blow the game in the first I lose all nine.

Is this the Frobby-jinx? Price signing announced almost immediately after you posted this.

    • Well said! Like you, I go back to about 1970 and the # of posts someone has is irrelevant to me. The fact that so many on here think there you know what don't stink keeps me, and I'm sure others from joining in more. I know what I know about this team and I don't feel the need to prove myself. And btw the closest that I've ever lived to Baltimore is the very most western part of Illinois.
    • To me none of that matters. Baker was throwing the ball well.  Had spin and velocity.  Go with that. Again, goes to show how many managers don't go by feel anymore and instead just go by what the book says.
    • You will get used to that around here.  The people saying you can't say anything about the Os unless you have played baseball for 20 years or been an Os fan for 50 years.   Bottom line is Baker, as mediocre as he is, was actually throwing the ball pretty well.  His pitches has spin and velocity and he had just struck out his last batter. To take him out for a complete and utter scrub?  And I say scrub in the best way possible?  Was ridiculous. Hyde was playing text book/by the book baseball instead of actually MANAGING BASEBALL by instinct and feels. And he got burned for it.  And it has not been the first time.
    • Brecht has TOR upside.  We’re good at finding #3-#5 types just in developing them, but we need that TOR arm upside and develop.
    • I thought Baker had a better chance of getting a strikeout. Even though he created that mess it looked like he could have worked out of it.  Generally not in favor of bringing in guys for bases loaded situations unless they’re absolute nails and have an extremely high K rate.  Akin’s K rate is higher this year but I still don’t believe he was the better option than Baker.
    • We’ve been picking really athletic types when not picking high in rd 1. Position player wise.   2023 - EBJ, Horvath, Josenberger, Cunningham, Etzel Not that are prior picks haven’t been athletic, if you know what I’m trying to say. We don’t take plodders as position players.
