Because this off season they have 70-83m coming off their yearly salary.

23m Teixeira

15m Beltran

11m Chapman

4m Nova

78m SubTotal FA

-5m buyout of Sabathia

73m Total FA

Plus possible non tenders

5.6m Eovaldi

4.3m Pineda

10m (rounded) total possible non tender

83m freed up this off season.

The Yankees will reload.

Yep. They're gonna save for 2018 though.

Nothing in next years FA to reload with. They will wait to blow it all on 2018. Sign Manny, Harper, Jake, Kershaw, etc.

Some of you still overrate that team. As far as I've seen over the past few years, they're just another team. This isn't those Yankees that used to beat the crap out of us on a yearly bases anymore. They have a VERY average offense and overrated starting pitching.

They're definitely not non-tendering Pineda and Eovaldi at those prices but I agree they'll be ready to spend a boatload of money.

They'll also be able to simultaneously do that while getting under the luxury tax threshold and reset their rate.

Luckily this free agent class this offseason looks very weak. Pretty much only Bautista and Strasburg at the top end.

They probably go hard after Strasburg.

I see them leaving Bautista alone considering how poorly all these recent contracts they have been paying out to aging vets have worked out.
