For Orioles fans, life in the Angelos Era has turned all humor into gallows humor. All suggestions unironically become serious and even the slightest impulse toward optimism is quickly crushed as flat as three day old roadkill in the sun. Except for one whimsical, child-friendly joke - Lucy pulling away the football is still a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. -
I very much disagree with the bolded above. I think the problem with extensions for any of our young guys is ownership, not the players. Which means that we likely wouldn't extend Chourio either. -

WTF are you talking about? I have said several times on here in this thread that the reason I wouldn’t sign this guy is because of Elias’ success in signing scrap heap guys. -

Brewers Making Progress On Extension Talks With Top Prospect Jackson Chourio This guy is rated just one notch under Holliday. He hasn’t turned 20 yet, seems to be open to an extension, and is considered a better than average CF. OH consensus seems to be Jackson would not be open to an extension and that our IF talent glut is greater than OF. Milwaukee has an OF glut, but needs IF help. Would you trade Holiday, Kramer, and Norby even up for Courio and Burnes? -

Emilio Pagan would have been very weak sauce, but he does have about 30 career Saves to check Mike Elias' voiced "experience closing" box....looks like he's getting $16mm from CIN to be in their setup crew. I think a basic Raysian tactic is to have guys on fixed salaries accrue your Saves and not mess up Arb, and would guess Elias wouldn't mind not having Cano-Hall-Wells get "37 saves" next year. -

I get your focus on targeting elite-level guys, but your dismissal of Elias' ability to find untapped talent is absurd. The bottom line is that Elias is better at finding guys than you are. He's better than most of the majors are. He's really good. We're lucky to have him and we should defer to him on deals like this one, waiver claims, Rule V guys, etc. That doesn't mean he'll hit 100% or that he shouldn't also go after top flight talent. But to get worked up over guys like Coloumbe or this guy is just silly. You don't know what they saw in these guys. But they see something that you're incapable of seeing (as am I). Just admit that.
