Fans are encouraged to arrive early on Friday, July 8, as the Orioles celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1966 World Series victory. Prior to the 7:05 p.m. ET game against the Los Angeles Angels, the Orioles will commemorate the first World Championship in club history with a video tribute, followed by an on-field ceremony including 13 members of the 1966 World Series team.

The pregame video will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m., detailing the Orioles' 4-0 sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1966 Fall Classic. Following the tribute video, the Orioles will welcome back National Baseball Hall of Famers and Orioles Legends JIM PALMER and BROOKS ROBINSON, as well as EDDIE FISHER, DICK HALL, LARRY HANEY, BILL HUNTER, BOB JOHNSON, DAVEY JOHNSON, JOHN MILLER, BOOG POWELL, VIC ROZNOVSKY, RUSS SNYDER, and EDDIE WATT during an on-field ceremony.

During the game, the Orioles will wear 1966 replica throwback uniforms featuring a patch celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1966 World Series victory. The Orioles game-worn replica throwback jerseys will be autographed, authenticated, and auctioned online to benefit the Orioles Charitable Foundation. The auction will also include 50th anniversary jerseys autographed by the alumni in attendance.

All fans in attendance on July 8 will receive a 1966 50th anniversary-themed Orioles T-shirt and will enjoy fireworks set to hit songs from 1966 following the game. The Orioles will continue the 50th Anniversary celebration with a 1966 Jim Palmer replica jersey giveaway, presented by UMBC, for the first 20,000 fans 15 and over on July 24, when the Orioles host the Cleveland Indians at 1:35 p.m.

Surprising move starting Jimenez over Wright as Wright has very good numbers against the Angels in two starts while Jimenez has awful numbers over 10 appearances. Anyway, no reason to go into detail here as we all know about this guy.

Since his awesome performance against us in last May, Shoemaker has really come on for the Angels and put up a 2.14 ERA in June with seven of his nine starts since then being up to my QS standards which means he has been very good. He allowed four runs once and five runs once which was in his last start against Boston. In the four starts before that of 27.1 IP, he allowed only four runs total and has lowered his ERA from 6.81 to 4.40 starting with his gem against us which is just more of the same for him when it comes to facing the Orioles. In his three starts against us, he has been dominant and has not walked a single Orioles hitter. He was very good at Camden Yards as well, so this could be trouble for the Orioles.

The Dodgers really showed why their offense has struggled this season as they had numerous chances to win the finale, but just kept hitting into double plays and pop ups in critical run scoring situations and the Orioles eventually took the series. Now facing the Angels, whose three game winning streak came against the Rays, the Orioles have a chance to end the first half on a high note before things get tough down the stretch. Matt Shoemaker won't likely be making things easy for them as he never has to this point.

Shoemaker and Jimenez. Jimenez sucks against the Angels and Shoemaker is dominant against the Orioles. Nuff said. Wright would have been more interesting here, but oh well.

Toronto continues their winning ways coming back late to beat the Tigers for their sixth straight win and are now two games back of the Orioles who have a real shot to win another series against the Angels. Boston remains three back and still occupies the second WC spot along with Toronto with Houston a game back and Detroit two back. Texas got hammered by the Twins, but Houston and Seattle also lost and so no ground is gained with Houston remaining 6.5 back in the division.

      I was being conservative, but it looks like you may be right.  44,555 yesterday afternoon.  88,542 for the first two games.   Attendance passed the 1 mm mark yesterday, on the 38th home date.

      Really not worried about the pitching matchups. It’s about our lineup being able to string together good at bats and put up some crooked numbers.

      These points are generally accurate, but I think the synthesis skews a bit negative. Overall, I am more positive on Cowser than I was coming in to the season. ·       Is he as good at defense as his OAA says? Probably not. However, he has been a lot better than expected and can likely be average or better in center field or plus in COF the next few years.  Combined with above average base running, this changes the hurdle on the offensive side to be an above-average regular. ·       I’m not sure it’s fair to just write off 40% of the season to date as a hot streak.  I think we would need to compare other players’ stats with their hottest month subtracted out. ·       Since May 1, his xwOBA has been .334. Overall, his xwOBA has been .349 (vs .330 wOBA). Yes, over a full season or more, wOBA tends to correlate to future wOBA equal or better than xwOBA does. However, in a half season or less, xwOBA has a stronger correlation to 2nd half wOBA than wOBA does. See here and here. ·       Cowser’s swing and miss will likely keep him from being elite, but I think he can still be very good.  Compare him to a player like Brent Rooker who has more swing and miss.
