Will the fans show?

Sure. Just pointing out how I think its wrong-minded when fans make excuses for not going to the games, or dismiss presumed lamentations from the Warehouse about a lack of attendance, then in the next breath plead that we resign Manny and preemptively express their rage about not getting it done. Like the two aren't connected...

They don't come to the games when Manny IS here. And having an MVP season. Nothing else to do. Nothing.

It seems to me that if you're looking to increase ticket revenue, it would have been wise to focus on increasing prices at the higher price points. Fans purchasing season tickets behind home plate are much less likely to be price sensitive than the guy deciding whether to take the kids to a game on Tuesday night looking at seats in left field.

I don't know if that is true. I like good seats. If I see 102 dollars for the best tickets I don't attend.

If Manny is asking for a 300 million dollar contract the team should let him go. But its not my team management and ownership can do whatever they want.

I was agreeing with you. I meant to say that and left it out.

I still think they can market the team better. Many people on here are the diehards .I think they got a little bit ,won't say arrogant but thought with a winning team for a few years that people would just come. People like discounts. Look at Supermarket and Department Stores. Ollie's Bargain Night went for whatever reason. They had promotions tied to gas stations and food in prior years. They keep saying Oriole ticket is one of the cheapest ticket in baseball ,but it is now about in the middle. Still below the big cities of Boston or New York or Chicago but not as cheap as 15 other clubs. Talking just the ticket price. Maybe next year they will promote better and people will come. Perhaps between the unrest, closed streets due to water main breaks, poor run city in general maybe they will never come back. i know Under Armour wants to make a big investment in the city.

Building some sort of entertainment district (think the Powerplant Live area) around the stadiums and casino might help. It would make it easier for people to grab dinner or a drink before and after games and serve as a buffer area for people worried about safety in the city.

Ok so looking at the remaining 1:35 games in the season the ticket prices are varied greatly by gamee ( I can't go to the 7:35 games as I have a 2 year old)

For section 262:

sept 4th - $73

sept 18th $40

sept 25th $48

No way I am paying 73 dollars for those seats. If the weather is good I will go on the 18th. I think these variable price ticketing is what is keeping attendance down. I would go this Sunday but not at highway robbery prices.

In this entire post you never mention WHO they are playing. That is because for you it is about seeing the Orioles. That is how Orioles fans think. They are most concerned with night of week and price not WHO they are playing.

Which is the flaw with the tiered pricing scheme. If I want to see the Orioles, who they are playing is pretty secondary. I want to go see them win. Paying twice as much to see them beat some team I don't care about is hard to justify.

Which you can bet Peter Angelos has thought about, and will think about again when considering whether or not to crack open his checkbook next time for, say, a Manny Machado. Can't say I really blame him. That's why I'm worried about attendance and why I think your average fan should be, as well.

We've never seen ownership spend (wisely or not, the point is largely moot for this discussion) like this before - they are not getting the results they expected (again, whether those expectations were fair is not really important, it's their perception) in response.

First off they may be making more off ticket sales this year than last.

Second ticket sales are not as important as years ago before Regional Sports networks.

A Friday night Tigers game in May sold more tickets than a Friday game in. June vs Yankees. The Tigers game had fireworks and CHEAPER tickets.

That kind of pricing structure is really unfortunate if there are no bargain nights mixed in during the year for certain weeknight games. I hope the Warehouse learns from this. I do think it's a big contributor among all the other things mentioned.. I know for a family of four (we're coming to the final weekend series vs. Arizona), we were looking for economical solutions for seating. No way could we afford the premium games in that section. We're not rich (wife is a state employee and I'm a musician who's barely getting by), so we are pretty far away from the action. But we want to be there so that's where we agreed upon. It'll be our 2nd trip up there from NC this year. If we lived in MD, I suspect we'd be there a good bit like a lot of you, even if it's just me and a daughter (for economical reasons, not all four of us).

I understand both of these points - that said, again, put yourself in Mr. Angelos' old loafers. You've just spent more money than ever (by a pretty good amount) on putting together a good team; signed a perceived fan favorite to the biggest contract in club history. And yeah, you raised ticket prices, but you hadn't done that for a few years, so you were due and you still think you've got a pretty cheap ticket. And, for the first time in forever, the team has been consistently competitive, even getting to the ALCS two short years ago. Plus, your team this year has spent more time in first place than any other AL East club, and has been in playoff position virtually all year. All that, and your attendance numbers are still down this year?

That's not going to make you think twice about signing a player to another monster deal?

This is what I don't get. The Yankees and Red Sox play here 9-10 games every single season. It isn't like a team like the Cardinals who play 3 games here every 6 years.

Why do the Orioles think their fans are so worried about seeing a team that plays here that often? The Yankees haven't won't 90 games since 2012 and the Red Sox have finished in last place 3 of the last 4 seasons. So these games are priced higher so fans can pay more to see games vs a team they can see 9-10 each next year and every year? All it accomplishes is FEWER Orioles fans at those games.

Orioles fans go to the games to see the Orioles, to see Manny, Jones, Davis etc.

And those fans come from the SUBURBS. A good percentage of those fans have kids. How hard is it to see what MATTERS to Orioles fans?

People who are fans buy or don't buy season tickets for 2 main reasons. Money and time commitment. So a fan who only attends a couple of games a year is going to try to get the most value they can when it is most convenient for them. That isn't a school night right when school start back. WHO the team plays does not matter that much.

In 2014 in first place by 6 games the Orioles averaged around 17.5K for a Mon-Thurdsy series vs Tampa the last week of August. Then when the Jays series doesn't sell well people are surprised?
