The Orioles and HBP's

The Orioles' hitters have been hit by a pitch 14 times in 50 games.    They've been hit the third least of any AL team.   Jonathan Schoop has been hit five times, which is tied for 4th most in the league.

O's pitchers have hit opposing batters 21 times, third most of any AL team.    Alec Asher leads the team (and the league) with 6 HBP's, despite having thrown only 31 innings.

What's frustrating and noticeable is that 14 of the 21 HBP's by our pitchers came when the pitcher was ahead in the count.    That includes 8 times with two strikes on the batter: 6 times on a 1-2 count and twice on an 0-2 count.

You would hope a power hitting team controlled the plate a little more.  Carlos Quentin for hitting coach!

You can beat a lot of guys on the O's by throwing away... and it's tough to hit a guy when you're working the outside part of the plate. Is there anyone on the team, except perhaps Schoop, that pitchers try to bust inside?

That's what happens when you have power hungry pull hitters.  My point is if they hung out a little further over the plate they could either get to those pitches or they would be balls.

Well it's hard for Mancini and Hardy to get considering they stand in 5 ft off the plate.  Harold Baines is saying they stand to far away.
