Braves new world up for grabs

The Braves just lost a boat-load (pun unintended but not avoided) of international prospects - including hugely touted Kevin Maitan and Jihwan Bae.  Most of these prospects are teenagers and years away, so they're not close to the majors, but they are valued prospects.  My understanding is that they're free agents but to sign them, teams must use currently available international funds, so it's not necessarily the richest teams that have the advantage - it's teams that have accumulated the most international funds.  I'm really not sure how this works, but I'm guessing the O's moves of trading international slots hurts what little odds they had of taking advantage of this opportunity.    

Most notably, perhaps, the Braves will lose their rights to highly regarded prospect Kevin Maitan, as Jon Heyman of Fan Rag first reported (via Twitter) and as earlier reporting suggested. A long list of others are also being stripped from the organization, as Ben Badler of Baseball America reported earlier. Backstop Abrahan Gutierrez, shortstop Yunior Severino, righty Juan Contreras, shortstop Livan Soto and righty Yefri del Rosario are also heading on to the open market, according to the Baseball America report. As Badler explains, all of these players are considered significant talents and important pieces of the Atlanta farm system. Most of the lost prospects, it seems, were members of the club’s vaunted 2015-16 July 2 class. Another big name from that class, Korean shortstop Jihwan Bae, is also being taken from the team, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

And right on cue Dan trades away another International Slot.

They can use either this year or next year's money on them, apparently.

Any team looking to makes run at them and needs money knows the pin number (DD's phone extension.)

God love him.  We'll miss Dan after this season.

If you think a different GM will change the way the Orioles approach the amateur international market, I believe you are mistaken.

You're probably right.  It starts at the top, and Dan's hands were probably tied in a lot of things.

Still, I'm expecting several more Konnor (spelled correctly this time) Wade type deals coming up.  And there's really no need to trade for these type guys, imo.
