Like the previous years, this will be the thread where we will keep the draft picks and follow them through signing. Post any signings in this thread, or in the forum, and I'll keep this post updated.

Thanks for the support, glad you like what we are doing here. I’m trying to have a my take edited onto each player’s draft thread by Friday morning at the lastest, most will get done tonight but

My brief take on each pick is done through Round 12 with video when available.  Also a handful of the later round picks, still need to do more digging. My best value in the top 10 rounds is Yeank

I am happy they signed all their top picks. 

Yes, they lost the 2nd round pick for that signing.

The main unsigned pick is Blaine Knight, he's been in Baltimore for a physical, but no announcement yet. It's hard to imagine him not signing if his physical is not a disaster,  the Orioles have about 1.1M of bonus money left to offer him. How much he signs for will dictate whether there is money left to sign Caleb Kilian or other later round overslot candidates.

What does it mean:

3.   - (87. $663,200)   Blaine Knight - RHP-Arkansas that looks like he signed for $663,200 on the list?

The Orioles have reached agreements with Round 13 pick, 3B Andrew Fregia from Sam Houston State and Round 25 pick, OF Nick Horvath from Florida. Still working to finalize with Round 3 pick, RHP Blaine Knight of Arkansas, but not done yet.

From the outside, it looks like a pretty successful 2018 draft. It would have been great if the O's could have signed one more of the overslots, but it's great they were able to sign the first 13 picks. Now we get to see if the Os can develop them properly.

 I don’t even want to think about that. I am disappointed for the kid. After all you do to get to that point, and this happens. SMH. Denaburg got a nice bonus from the Nats despite some medical issues. They are both Brevard County kids and know each other well. I hope he recovers from whatever issues he is having and has a strong run at Mississippi State.

It's really rare for a guy to become one of the top 800 baseball players in the world. A lot of promising kids are injured and never get the shot to try. I feel bad for him. I wish he had taken the 47% offer. Likely the best he will ever see.

Perhaps so. We know many of the same people, so I will make some inquiries to try to find out what happened. I do not know him well, though we are fairly close to some of his teammates. I wonder if it is a shoulder and not the elbow. Not sure what the Braves think about rehabbing a guy and taking a chance on him. The Nats have that track record of taking medical risks, which is what I alluded to in he previous post. 

Its a little surprising, though, because the kid was in a program year round that is really excellent for pitchers to grow without being overused. They had several stud pitchers there in Brevard County the last several years. Stewart’s teammate, their #2 starter, is a Florida signee, RHP Nick Pogue. Remember that name. He will be a top pick in three years. A little raw now, but he has been handled extremely well through the years.

As a side rant, related somewhat, I suspect that the world of amateur scouting is what is actually to blame for these kids’ demise. All of the damn showcases are year round now. Kids burn out, plain and simple. The pitchers get little rest. Being fresh out of that grind, I can tell you I will do things differently with my younger son. They killed my son’s love of the game. And as far as I know, Carter never had arm or shoulder issues. They have to do something about this crap. It is killing the game. At least take the fall off.

      Fangraphs Updated Top 45 Prospect List

      I think Fangraphs decides who’s eligible as of the start of the season.  Unlike other publications that release all their team lists at the same time, Fangraphs slow rolls theirs over a 6 month period or so.   Therefore, to put all the teams on the same footing, they base eligibility as of the start of the season.

      My stance would be pretty simple. Im not trading any of the top 3 prospects and im not trading any of the young talent that is controlled long term that is currently on the ML roster. That means besides the very obvious guys that players like Cowser and Kjerstad are also off the board. Now, if a player like Skubal becomes available, that could cause me to change my mind but as I look around at the reported available players, I don’t see anyone worth a top 20 prospect or young contributing ML talent. Guys like Norby and Stowers fall into that latter category but they aren’t here right now and they are just redundant on our roster. So I’m telling teams if you want to deal with us, guys like Norby, Stowers and Beavers are who will lead deals and that several vets, led by Mountcastle, are also on the board in any potential contender/contender(fringe contender) type deal. I think whether it’s Fedde or relievers like Estevez or Nardi or Garcia or even Scott, I think we have enough to get deals done without trading any of the guys we would rather not lose. This is all to say that I just don’t see that proven elite high end talent available this deadline to justify trading any of those top guys.

      He’s an interesting test case. Prior to 2023, wasn’t good. In 2023, he threw around 200 innings iirc in the KBO and learned the sweeper. Now he is pitching much better. His statcast stats are pretty good although he’s not missing bats or getting Ks and he has a tendency to give up some hard contact.

      I don’t think he can be counted on for that. If you can get him cheap fine but his career WAR is 3.5 and he has 3.7 this year. Plus he’s 33 innings short of his career high …did 120-130 range twice. How could that be your acquisition that can be counted on when he could quite possibly run out of gas? Or get to a team where performance matters and feel the pressure versus pitching for the White Sox…A horrid team that everyone knew was going to suck.

      With all due respect … I think you are counting on Mayo to come up and immediately perform. I don’t think it’s realistic… possible yes. But, most guys have an adjustment. If it’s one thing we’ve seen from Hyde is the reluctance to give regular time to the rookies. Didn’t see it with Stowers, Norby, etc. They did  give it to Holliday but I think there was pressure being put on him to do so.  You think he would replace Urias who doesn’t play everyday with Mayo and sit the other guys to play him every day which is what a player needs during that adjustment period?
