Bob Nightengale is pretty reliable and I believe based in Chicago and has excellent sources. Note Elias said reports of Hyde being hired were premature. He did not say he would not be his choice. My comment about Elias letting John and Lou know was strictly a courtesy not a requirement.

Besides...Elias said a hire hasn't happened yet. He didn't say an offer was made and/or accepted. Hyde has to let the Cubs know...contracts have to be written up and gone over by both sides...I don't believe any misleading are taking place. Just alot of legalities.

It is late...maybe just a verbal offer has been made...not an actual written contract yet. Alot of twist on words is possible.
