Win!

  • ?John Means: How consistent is this guy? He's gone at least 5 innings while giving up 3 ER or less in 7 straight starts. He goes 5 in this one while striking out 7. ERA: 2.60.

  • Shawn Armstrong: Shout out to Shawn Armstrong, man. A 1.69 ERA since coming over from the Mariners (LOL) and two huge scoreless innings in this game. He struck out 3 and his ERA is down to 4.12 after a rough start to his season. He hasn't been scored upon in 6 straight appearances.

  • Mychal Givens: Easy save (#6)! Couple of Ks. 4 straight scoreless appearances and maybe he's turned a bit of a corner just in time for the trade deadline. His 4.82 ERA is the lowest it's been since May 20.

  • Richard Bleier: One really big out as he relieved Castro who allowed a run and put guys on base. Bleier maintained the lead in a dicey spot. Nicely done.

  • Chance Sisco: It was a doubles party for the O's offense and Sisco had one of the RBI variety. A nice liner the opposite way. So far since coming up, he has 3 hits and they've all been for extra bases: 2 doubles and a homer. I would happily trade off average for slugging. Appeared to call a solid game.

  • ?Anthony Santander: 3-4 night including a bloop RBI double that made the Jays look silly, which is always nice. I like Tony. He can hang up here and I think he turns it up another level in the big leagues.

  • Jonathan Villar: You guessed it: RBI double. Biiiig insurance run right there in the 8th.

  • Trey Mancini: RBI double, you ask? YUP.

  • Mini ?s: Nunez's 2 walks, Chris Davis got on base twice on a hit and a walk, Wilkerson had a big hit to get on base with 2 outs in the 8th before Villar's double, Ruiz got in on the doubles party with one of his own.

Going inside of what Means did yesterday, he gave up the homer in the first and also threw something like 30 pitches that inning, too.  Davis didn't help him out by botching a foul popup that allowed Grichuk to extend an at bat.  He kept fouling off pitch after pitch.

He somehow made it through 5 after starting off with an inflated pitch count which is awesome.  He doesn't fold, he keeps battling.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it may yet in the 2nd half or something, but even if he isn't as good the rest of the year, that still basically equals Bundy. Which is a triumph of a season for John Means.

The second inning wasn’t any picnic, either, from a pitch count point of view (22, giving Means a total of 55 after two innings).    He did a very good job to get through five on a night where, by his own admission and Hyde’s assessment, his command wasn’t the best.

Forgot about that.  Probably because it seemed better in comparison.

So basically everyone except Broxton/Martin that came in yesterday as defensive replacements.  Yeah, it kind of looked like a baseball team yesterday.

I think this team likes playing the Blue Jays.

It would be even sweeter if Jose Batista was there and they threw brush back pitches every time he was at bat.

I was ready to shoot Davis when he missed that pop-up 10-11 pitches into Grichuk’s at bat.

In my rat's ass of an opinion, this guy deserves some greenies for his almost daily reports on each and every Orioles regular-season game (162 reports over approximately 183 days.)

Who you tellin.  Just the way he was running over there and then looking up and kinda backwards was just awkward, it had doom written all over it.

    • I wouldn’t call that a “real strength”. Trade Perez and get a better arm to replace him.
    • But that RH bat played a position that we had locked down because of the presence of Urias and Westburg. He wasn’t going to come up and play. If you wanted him to be the RH DH, that’s fine but the Os also lost Mounty and Mayo didn’t come up and play well. They decided that having those 4 players was enough depth to use Norby to get pitching. I don’t see that as being wrong at all…no one to predict what would happen after. They had that “position” locked down. Jimenez was just a lottery ticket and really he played a lot more than they probably thought because of all the injuries that occurred.
    • The 2025 bullpen looks like a real strength. R - Bautista, Cano, Dominguez, Webb L - Coloumbe, Soto, Perez, Akin I like having the 4 lefties with the WALL and that should be enough for the regular season.  It allows us to really matchup and take advantage of our ballpark. That’s a pen with 4 former All Stars. I believe Akin will still have an option since he made it through the season without burning his last one.  He’d be the guy to go down to AAA for a longman/fresh arm when needed. Maybe we get our lightning in a bottle reliever throwing near 100 in McDermott or Morfe later in the year. I don’t think we see much turnover here.  However, I could see Elias electing not to bring back Soto for flexibility reasons, more so than salary reasons.  Could we actually “sell” Soto for something of value?
    • https://www.masnsports.com/blog/reviewing-orioles-recent-coaching-history-and-thoughts-on-what-s-next From Roch.    An immediate reaction to the current openings is that Triple-A Norfolk manager Buck Britton could be a candidate to fill one of them. They also could seek a bilingual coach now that González and Hernández are gone. Britton’s contract expires at the end of the month and he’s close with the young hitters who passed through Norfolk. He’s also gained the respect of other teams in the majors and could move on, which would leave the Orioles with another task.
    • If we don’t resign Burnes then what are we doing as a franchise?  It’s hard to see any difference between Rubenstei and what we had before. A case can be made for not bringing back Santander.  Heck, even Soto, but with our SP injuries, and the way we’ve spent our draft capital, the plan looked to be to always land that big time SP from outside the org.  Well that happened.  Gotta keep him now.
    • He called it a solid trade at the time it was made and he’ll die before he admits he was wrong about something.
    • There was a need for a RH bat. We used a major league ready RH bat (who was also serviceable in the field) in the trade for Rogers. We added a bad RH bat, who was not able to play defense at all.  Neither Eloy or Rogers were able to keep their spot on the roster, and we had two guys go down that would have opened spots for Norby. So yes, it does have something to do with the Rogers trade.
