Hess is terrible.  This does not please me.

I mean, I really shouldn't expect much this year but that doesn't mean I gotta like it.  I can't stand watching Hess.

The guy might be selling vacuums in two years, that’s why you don’t pull him with a no-no going. Gee, wonder how much Hess thinks about that?

I feel that way about the minor-league guys, but Hess already has his pension, his healthcare, and right around $1 million in the bank, and he’s 25-ish and has a Degree that will earn him lots of money. He’s going to be fine, cut him loose today tomorrow or next month, he’s going to be fine.

I really want to give a chance to the guys who have been suffering in the minors for six or seven or eight years. Bring them up give them a few games and then send them home. They will treasure those memories, and it won’t hurt the big club.

Let’s see him in a bullpen role. He may be solid. Big difference being a starter.

I think that’s a big problem for our team and seeing if any of these guys can have success. Ideally we’d even have the “Buck years” rotation and try and fill innings 5-9 with the pen. With guys in set roles. We’re literally a ST team.

Sometimes I sympathize with these guys and think “oh they’d do better in set roles”, but damn, just go out there and get outs. I think they by now they know what are he deal is. Means stepped up and took advantage of it. Who else has?  Fry for a bit?  At some point it’s these guys we have just have a lack of talent.

Could David Hess be good in the “Castro role” from under Buck?  Maybe. But I’m pretty sure Fry, Bleier, and Scott, would be good as LOOGYs.

No excuses. The players aren’t getting “overexposed” or “need a role”. They just aren’t getting outs. They get outs in ST games just fine and they are pitched the same way. Now it’s just tougher talent. End rant.

Hess might do ok in the bullpen, but eventually some of these prospects need to pan out as starters. Hunter Harvey looks another pitcher who going to end up as a bullpen arm. Which might not be so bad in Harvey's case since he looks like a beast so far out of the bullpen.

Years ago all most questionable pitchers that were called up started in the Bullpen.  Once the gained the trust of management team they were moved forward.  The elite starters in AAA and AA were brought forward as starters.
