Maybe they can discontinue the divisional standings flags on the flag court until further notice. Make them all O's flags... Or one giant O's flag... OR raise one flag for every Chris Davis HR

You're insane if you think they are going to spend good money on 12 O's flags.

Rendon signs 7 years 245 million with Angels....this will be one bad investment I predict.   And no, I am not upset in the least that we are not playing in that end of the pool.   It is usually where stupid goes to die anyway.

Build up the base, get the young and the hungry and then go forth to do battle!

Well they have four much watch players.  They have to try and get something out of the Trout years.

I also don't really get any of the incessant whining about this rebuild.  Most of us were around for 1998-2011.  This is practically nothing in comparison.

I mean, what would you want instead?  A team like the 2003 version?  Fat Ponson, Jay Gibbons?

What about the 2004 team?  That was the year we went all in, pushed our chips to the middle of the table and thought Miguel Tejada, Javy Lopez and Raffy 2.0 were going to transform this franchise and get us back to our winning ways.  But hey, they won 78 games!!!!

Would you prefer a squad like the 2009 team?  Brad Bergesen was our leader in WAR with 3.3 . I honestly didn't recognize who that was on the baseball reference page when I saw his photo.  Sure there were some luminaries like Markakis, Jones, B-Rob but that was offset by Cesar Izturis and Aubrey Huff.  We gave 24 starts to Jason "Merkin" (look it up) Berken and Jeremy Guthrie was terrible.  But hey!!!  They won 64 games!!

We survived all those teams, all those seasons.  Had a decent stretch in the 2010s (looking back on it, we probably weren't even that good, it's just that the Sox and Yanks weren't that great) and now we're doing things properly.  I've maintained for a long time on here that the worst part of the 1998-2011 stretch wasn't the losing but it was the notion that the Orioles constantly tried to sell us on the idea that THIS IS THE YEAR.

At least they're being honest about it now.  I don't need Elias to spend a bunch of money this offseason in order to pacify the fanbase and make people think that it's money well spent.

I've also maintained on here that the REAL reason why people are upset here is that they know this team will lose plenty in 2020 but at least they want to lose by watching players they like.  For some reason it would be ok to watch this team win 55 games with Villar and Bundy but it's incomprehensible to watch them win 52 games without them.

I don't get it, I really don't.  Angelos did a bang up job of decimating this franchise over the years, we've stuck through it thick and thin.  I mean, if you're posting on here, you're a diehard.  And even if you're NOT posting on here, even if you're lurking and just reading this, you didn't find this site by accident.  You're a diehard, too.

So hike up your skirts and put your $#*%kickers on, we're going for a walk.  It's not going to be easy but at least we know where we're going.

Never worn a skirt. I have a pair of S#!&kickers.

    • ZiPS being an inhuman thing incapable of recency bias is not much out on Holliday.    It only dings his 2025-2029 forecast WAR by about 3% today relative to what it was forecasting this spring. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/reassessing-the-future-for-this-seasons-disappointing-rookies/ Jackson Holliday’s numbers didn’t take a big hit for a few reasons. First, and most importantly, despite a really lousy debut in the majors, he played well enough in the minors — plus he’s so young and his résumé is so strong — that his small-sample struggles barely register. By reverse-o-fying Holliday’s major league woes into an untranslated minor league line and including it in his overall Triple-A production, ZiPS estimates that he would’ve had a 118 wRC+ in Triple-A this season, down from his actual mark of 142. A 20-year-old shortstop with a 118 wRC+ in Triple-A would still top everybody’s prospect list.
    • Kjerstad should also get some reps in at first so he can be an option there as well, although now is probably not the time, best for him to DH for the rest of the season. He had 8 starts at first at AAA this season and 37 starts there between AA and AAA in 2023.
    • In Grich’s case, I think his OBP skills weren’t appreciated at the time.  He was a .266 lifetime hitter in an era when that was maybe 10 points above average, but his .371 OBP was more like 45-50 points above average.  But OBP just wasn’t very valued at the time.
    • We don’t have a current combo that is ideal. You have to go with the best possible grouping you have.
    • Yep, we're in agreement on the 70 rWAR threshold.  A championship would help Manny's cause, though I'm not sure if that's in the cards for him in the near future.  He needs a big moment on a big stage, too....as silly as that sounds, I do believe it matters in the eyes of some voters. Not to derail, but Whitaker is a guy that belongs in the HoF, too.  I'm not sure why Grich never got serious consideration.
    • I’ve always felt that 70 rWAR was the line between having to justify why someone shouldn’t be in the HOF versus justifying why they should.  In other words, if you’re over 70, there needs to be a reason for you NOT to be in.  There are 70 position players over 70 WAR, and the only ones not in are Bonds, Pujols (not yet eligible), Trout (not yet eligible), Rose, Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Raffy Palmeiro, Bobby Grich, and Carlos Beltran.  Really, only Dahlen, Whitaker and Grich have no obvious reason why they’re not in.  And I wouldn’t bet against Beltran getting in eventually.  He’s gotten  46% and 57% of the ballots his first two tries.
