Orioles/Nats game not on MASN (O's Lose 5-3)

I know it is a spring game, and the Nationals are not thrilled with MASN, but anyone else find it weird today's game is not being televised?  Seems like you'd get O's and Nats fans tuning in or DVRing, though maybe I just answered my own question.

I thought it was weird, too. But MASN is terrible about televising spring games. What do they do, 6 games for the O's? That's pathetic.

You would think you'd want one of them to be against the WS winners.

yeah, but as I was asking it, I kind of thought that if you will probably get more viewers over separate games than the two playing in the same game.  Still kind of surprised.

Guess the expenses of airing a preseason game, doesn't generate enough revenue to offset the costs to air.

That's all it can be, really.  Nothing else makes sense.  They own the friggin network - you'd think they'd be televising every game, or at least a couple a week and especially weekends.

This afternoon MASN was broadcasting Heartland Poker Tour and World Class Championship Boxing. A half step up over simulcast of ESPN News, but not compelling television in the slightest. They have to fly crew down to Florida to show any games, I don't see why they can broadcast more besides the expense of it.

Just for a gauge of what other teams do, I checked:

YES Network is showing 12 Yankee spring training games this year

NESN is showing 14 Red Sox spring training games this year.

MASN is showing 7 Oriole spring training games this year.

MASN is showing 7 Nats spring training games this year.

Sportsnet is showing 10 Blue Jays spring training games this year.

Fox Sports Sun is showing 11 Rays spring training games this year.

  • weams changed the title to Orioles/Nats game not on MASN (O's Lose 5-3)

The broadcasters are already down there, I mean half of Orioles analysts are guest instructors and the annoying analyst FP for Nationals has nothing else in his life.  TV truck is probably down there since the games are sporadic.  Again, I just figure why show not both teams, if not for the fact that they'd rather show them playing different teams.

    • While I wouldn’t love a trade involving Basallo.  And would prefer a lesser tier player. I understand that you have to give value in order to get value. And I don’t think we can continue to afford to punt present opportunities for future possibilities (that may or may not come). I also acknowledge what you stated that Miller has a notable injury risk. But I believe you don’t make the shots that you don’t take. IMO Miller would put us over the top in terms of being a WS favorite this year. And if we could pair him with Bautista for a few seasons in the future, the odds would be seriously stacked in our favor in the postseason.
    • They didn't draft him to hit home runs. That said, I think he'll get one out this year. More than likely on the road, given Aberdeen's dimensions, but he's hitting it well now.
    • Big fan of JM.   Even as bad as he was late last year I always thought he was an asset.   Very happy to see him hitting better, and his fielding has never been better.  He looks like a savant out there.
    • Great lineup to be at the game today.
    • Not as many wins as the Yankees.
    • I don’t disagree with anything you said, my point was that he slipped a bit. Normally you’re right, it wouldn’t matter, great players have bad days. However, with his injury, history, and the fact that he’s always throwing as hard, it is possible for a human to throw, the injury risk lowered the price a bit. A few weeks ago, I posted about the possibility of a Basallo/Miller trade, so I’m definitely willing to acquire him, and pay a lot for him to boot. But the injury risk is real, and, although it’s minor, probably irrelevant, he has slipped a bit recently.
    • Putting aside results/outcomes for the moment, but To me, Hays has physically looked stronger/faster these last few appearances (even if sporadic usage) rather than his IMO 80% and constantly banged/nicked up.  I see him continuing to get more comfortable in this limited role and be a real asset as weak side platoon and pinch hitting option.
