Elias got embarrassed today. Elias traded Villar to Miami for low A-ball reliever, Easton Lucas, drafted in the 14th round in 2019. He is a "non-ranked prospect."

And Miami turns Villar into rightfielder Griffin Conine, who hit 22 HRs in 80 games at A ball last year. Conine, Jeff's son, was the Jays' #16 prospect according to mlb.com and the 52nd player taken in the 2018 draft, fwiw.

How come Mike Hill can a quality prospect for Villar when the best Elias could do was get zilch?

What would Elias have had to have added in a hypothetical trade to acquire Conine in a trade for Easton? Yusniel Diaz? Grayson Rodriguez?

Elias doesn’t look great in this scenario but no one looks worse than Toronto.

I agree and Villar was coming off an awesome season ...not a slow start in 2020.

I complained and posters here told me that he had no value.

He had a nice year last year but obviously he didn’t have much trade value with his arbitration raise.  He’s predictably not playing well this year.  Apparently Toronto didn’t get the memo and gave up an actual prospect for 20 games of him.

Miami made out very well.

I’m curious. If Toronto wanted a second baseman, why didn’t they just trade for Alberto, who is-recent stupid play excepted- a better all-around player?

Not even close to the same situation.

Elias in rebuild mode was trying to rid on Villar's 10m salary.

Today  the Marlins trade Villar and his 1.5m salary to a contender for a prospect.  

Way different.
