Is there supposed to be a link here or are we supposed to know what the thread title means?   Or is it a homework exercise for us to go to our favorite search engine and try to figure this out?

The Yankees wanted to cut/move on from underperforming Adam Ottavino in the last year of his expensive reliever contract.  The Red Sox accepted him in trade, and will be paying him about triple what the Yankees subsequently signed Darren O'Day for a few days later.   And arguably despite the availability of better FA relievers even now signing for less than 1/$7M.

Cot's tonight shows the Yankees having utilized ~$200M of the $210M Competitive Balance Tax threshold for 2021, leaving a bit open for in season upgrades.   With O'Day and without the Red Sox help, they'd be approximately at the CBT line right now.
