Glad he is working his way back.

I thought part of the COVID protocols was that all rehabs would be at AAA, so there wouldn't be a delay when the player would be called up.

He will need to undergo COVID intake which would cause a delay of a day or two to be called up directly to the Orioles from Bowie, so it is possible he rehabs at Norfolk as well.

According to a Nats' beat writer on MASN, that was the case.  

I wonder if anything has changed since the O's Tier1/Tier2 employees hit the magical 85% barrier t he other day?

I would think that the delay of having to go through COVID protocols once upon joining the Baysox and then again upon rejoining the Orioles should supersede any potential discomfort of having to go on a AAA road trip and only go through protocols once.

But I guess the Orioles don't really care if Santander takes an extra day to return.

I guess I don't understand the difference in COVID protocols between going to Bowie or Norfolk. Why would he not have less protocols if he travels (by Air) to Charlotte vs driving to Bowie for games?

Your link is from February.

When the AAA season started, MLB announced that AAA would be held to the same testing standards as MLB, so players could be called up directly from AAA to MLB without additional delay, as they were from the alternate training site. The testing standards are evidently less stringent at the lower leagues, so there will be a delay in moving players up from AA to the Majors (or presumably from AA to AAA). I don't have a link in front of me, but it was definitely announced.

According to an article I posted a week or so ago by the Nats' MASN beat writer, personnel at MLB and AAA are following the same Covid protocols.

That beat writer basically said that players could be promoted from AAA to MLB, or vice versa, have one quick immediate Covid test, and join the team.   Players going from lower levels of the minors to AAA or the majors would have to undergo some sort of quarantine period or something.

He implied that meant that players could only be called directly to the majors from AAA, and that ML players rehabbing could only go to AAA to do so.   Clearly that isn't true if Santander is rehabbing in Bowie.

      Wieters' bWAR was 13.3 through his first 4 seasons (2009 - 2012).  It ended at 18.3 after his last season in 2020, so he was basically ineffective for the last 8 years of his career. Adley's bWAR is 13.1 through his first 3 seasons. So it isn't like Wieters didn't have a strong start to his career just like Adley did.  I think the concern that folks have is that the rest of Adley's career will play out like the rest of Wieters' career.  It seemed very unlikely halfway through this year, but this has been one hell of a drop-off.   And after Wieters never lived up to expectations, it is definitely a fear that we may be reliving this again.  Let's hope this second half was just an aberration.

      Adley has been in a horrible almost 4 month slump. Before that, he was the WAY BETTER offensive player. But I pose this question: What does it matter if Rutschman turns out to be worse than Wieters? Matt Wieters was drafted almost TWENTY YEARS AGO. No one in this org had anything to do with him being on our roster. HEck none of our current front office was even here for his entire Orioles' career.

      I do feel like Adley is out of shape or at least has gotten more out of shape than usual. That’s part of the reason I think he’s hurt…not working out as much. If he is healthy and the slump is this bad, I’m ok questioning whether or not the new GF(ie the distraction) is part of it. Is he putting everything into the game that he should?

      Can they? - Yes it's possible. Anything is possible.  Will they? - I have my doubts. The team was abysmal (minus Cedric Mullins and O'Hearn's pinch hit appearance) with the bat in their hands yesterday. And for many of our hitters this was nothing more than a continuation/carryover from the second half of the season.

      Right now Geronimo Gil is better than Adley.  But I'm not gonna kick Adley while he's down.  Let him get a reset, work on some things in the offseason, and hope that this 2nd half ends up being just an aberration in a good career.

      Which is crazy since they put 7 on the board vs Ragans hitting all singles. They had an approach that worked and then they went away from it.
