Here's how the bonus babies have fared so far offensively:

***

DSL 2:

***
SS/2B Victor Celedonio, 17, $360 K

.100/.182/.100/.282 0 BB, 3K in 11 PAs

Celedonio has played for both DSL teams.   His combined line is .140/.339/.256, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 9 BB, 15 K’s in 56 PAs.

A lot of weak hitting here, but these are very young guys so you can’t make too much of it.

Thanks for adding in the other team stats.

I agree that you can't make too much of it, but at 17, you would like to see them putting up some decent numbers there with the expectation the best of them are going to the FCL next year.

It's not surprising that several of these guys will wash out pretty quickly because they are so young when these deals are made. it also will not be surprising if a guy given a much less bonus significantly out plays them.

I think the question on a lot of these guys is do they push them to the FCL next year or have them repeat the DSL?    Obviously, a guy like DeLosantos, the 3B, is going to Florida next year.

I would hope we would push them considering we don’t draft HS players and we have a better presence in the Caribbean. Ironically we pretty much have 4 DSL teams because they’re aren’t too many draftees on either FCL team.

Agree with all this.   I do see that a couple of our guys doing well in the FCL didn’t exactly light the world on fire in the DSL.

Acevedo .636/.791

Deson .663/.879

Of course they were two years older due to the missed COVID year.

Definitely a factor, but it’s also true of many of the pitchers they’re facing.  The average age of pitchers in the 2019 DSL was 18.3; in the 2021 FCL it’s 20.8.   That compares to 20.3 in the 2019 GCL.

There is no age shown for de los Santos.

Is he outperforming the other guys because he is older than they are?

Orioles 2 beats Orioles 1 by 5 to 1.

There are some 1st year pitchers worth watching down there.  And not bonus babies either.

1st year Righthander 18 year old Ceasar Alvarez took the loss despite. 4 strong innings.  Record 1-2, Era 2.17,  7 starts 29 innings 41 strikeouts.  Whip 1.21.

Righthander Anthony Morillo age 19, won his first game this year.  Now 1 win and 2 losses.  7 starts 27.2 innings, 2.60 ERA, 37 strikeouts, 1.19 WHIP.   Did pitch 3 innings in 2019

Overall both teams are way under .500 but hey, you can't overcome years of neglect overnight..  I'm encouraged.
