Just Regular
Now that we've retained Means, and been unable to gather any Kevin Smith's with this year's relievers - here's a guess on the core group of arms to staff the next few years' teams. I have excluded Alex Wells and Bruce Zimmermann, though as always I hope anyone in the right laundry will excel and do more than throw glorified batting practice to MLB bats. The 2021 failure of basically everyone between ages 22-26 is a pretty big ding for relevance anytime soon. Like Cedric Mullins, one healthy Michael Baumann could make some of these concerns vanish if he is truly whole again and can finish 2021 anything like he finished 2019. Italics = Group of Despair, mostly 2.10.1993 Jorge Lopez 4.24.1993 John Means 8.26.1994 Tyler Wells (regular "gosh, he's not that young" reaction, but for the throwing mechanisms age is more just a number. Cedric Mullins' elder) 12.9.1994 Hunter Harvey 4.1.1995 Keegan Akin 9.10.1995 Michael Baumann 1.7.1996 Dean Kremer 4.30.1996 Zac Lowther 6.28.1996 Blaine Knight 9.12.1996 Kyle Bradish 5.13.1997 Kevin Smith 10.20.1997 Kyle Brnovich 9.19.1998 DL Hall (2-year sum of 30 IP - oy. Perhaps in 2023 he will be ready for a 6th starter workload. Darn straight I will give him 35 pitches in 2022's Wildcard #6 game) 11.16.1999 Grayson Rodriguez 12.15.1999 Drew Rom In the italicized group are almost everyone I'd hoped might round out the staff of a .500 or better team by 2022 in worlds where Davis' final $23M are more like 25% than 50% of the payroll. The other big bit we won't know until we know for Orioles Run Prevention in the early Adley years is how much his defense might nurse one or two of the Kremer-Akin types back towards MLB 5th starter cromulence. But with Elias' recent precise comments about the long AAA season, I suppose I must accept Rutschman might not even Mountcastle this September.

We love the flow and the use of "Mountcastle" as a verb! @OrioleDog
