Good bit of it.  I'm sure the optics of having a "full season" also plays a part.

 

Nothing stopping them from playing 154 and still getting full pay.  That is something that could be negotiated.

Or society.  Outside of all the wars we participated in the 20th century, you could argue that Jackie breaking the color barrier is one of the top 5 most important things to happen in American history over the course of the century.
