The Teixeira Watch: Part IV

But what if it is a 8-9 year 28 million dollar a year offer? What if it money that is so insane that there is no way that he is logically worth it?

I mean there is getting beat because of a lack of effort, and then there is getting beat when you hold a straight but the other guy has a straight ace high.

Well, that's understandable, but it would be unlikely. If the Nats are offfering 10/290 then let him go.

I have no clue whether to believe our insiders, or the mainstream media reports. But any skepticism you place on reporters you have to use with our insiders. Buster Olney is as respected a baseball writer as they come. I don't know who his sources are in the O's organization, nor do I know bb's or Belkast's. But people should probably stop blindly disregarding their reports because they are unfavorable IMO.

I remember hearing that Olney does indeed communicate with Angelos on a semi-regular basis.

As I was saying....

I've been coming here every hot stove season of my adult life, and every year here we are... reading and posting, posting and reading... smiling. I can't take this no more!

I would really like to say...

The Baltimore Orioles walked a little taller that day. And we had to tip our hats to them. They were lucky Boras hadn't beat the CRAP out of them. We wouldn't have blamed him. What we'd done was bold, smart, and cool. Not another one among us would have ever in a million years even for a million dollars have the guts to put the moves on Boras and Tex. McPhail did. He had signed a ballplayer. And he had signed him long and good. We all got banned from emailing Roch forever that day. But every time we walked down to the stadium after that, we looked down from our bleacher seats, right over at first base, and smiled.

Also, it seems odd to me that people on here keep talking about the tight-lipped Warehouse and that info isn’t going to leak to the media. Yet we all hang on every word of our insiders which get information supposedly leaked to them from people who must know it’s going to immediately be put on a message board viewed by thousands of people.

I’m not questioning anyone’s sources and I do appreciate the information, this whole thing is just so damn complicated!

This whole Tex drama validates the notion that it is easier to get by with this team, when and if you keep expectations seriously in check, low, measured, etc. Otherwise, you are simply setting yourself up for a potential big fall, disappointment. For many, I realize, this is easier said than done. :)

It could be the Orioles want to give their die hard fans hope while sticking it to the national media...

If we lose Tex because he turns down our "wow" offer, so be it.

If we lose Tex because we never made a "wow" offer and stood pat on our initial offer, unacceptable.

Boycott considerations aside, these reflect my sentiments.

If took a legit shot and simply were outspent by millions of crazy dollars (i.e., 27-28 million per year is wacky range to me), I'm happy we made the effort.

If we made the low offer and 'hoped' for the best, not so good.

But I have been attending or watching games for this long, I'm all out of protests and boycotts at this point in life. I just thought that owning a baseball team was always about trying to put the best team on the field.

Its a little irrational to go out of your way to bash all these reporters credibility just because its not what you want to hear. What are they supposed to do? Were the reporters who reported that Obama won the election being anti-McCain?

I honestly don't see what they get out of "sticking it to the media".

I realize that AM is secretive, but I still think there are snags in all this and that Tex has wanted to go to Boston all along. I think the Ravech stuff was just something to get the Red Sox moving...typical Boras gouging.

I found this quote from Olney funny:

The only chance the Orioles have to be seriously considered now, sources say, would be if Teixeira, a Maryland native, were to take Baltimore's offer.

Yes, I'd say that if Tex accepted our offer, we'd have to be seriously considered as part of this race. Superb analysis.

Exactly. I highly doubt Olney and Rosenthal etc. are simply making up anti-Orioles stories because they will get more hits if the Yanks/Sox get Tex or whatever conspiracy theory is out there. Maybe their sources are wrong? Maybe they are lying to Olney etc on purpose. But I would be willing to bet a lot that SOMEONE tells them the information they put out there, however correct or not it may be.
