I am well aware that it’s up to the Orioles whether or not they stay in postseason competition. That said I was curious about how the other teams schedules broke down and the most realistic path.
Starting this MONDAY here are the schedules for each team. HOUSTON and NYY are not included for obvious reasons. One of 3 ALC teams win division.  7 teams for 3 spots.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

SEATTLE should be investigated if they don’t make the playoffs. In their next 20 games they do play 15 games with contenders . Their last 20 they play zero. They are done with HOUSTON.

In the CENTRAL  Cleveland is currently up 1.0 game over MINN. In an odd twist due to the labor issues they finish at home with 6 games vs KC. The TWINS play CLE 8 games and the CWS 9 games. CWS play CLE only 3 games. As previously mentioned they play MINN 9 times. The ORIOLES play both CWS for 3 games and at CLE for 3. CLE has 15 games left with non contenders, MINN has 13 and CWS have 19.

In the EAST we all know the ORIOLES brutal schedule. They play 8 games with non contenders. They play TOR 10 times, BOS 7, HOU 7, NYY 3. BOSTON plays 9 games vs non contenders. They play TOR 6 games, TB 9, BAL 7, NYY 6.  The BLUE JAYS play 12 non contenders which include 9 straight and 12 of 16. They play the ORIOLES 10 games, BOS 6,  NYY 3 and TB 9. TAMPA BAY has 9 games with non contenders and they play NYY 6, BOS 9, HOU 6 and as mentioned TOR 9 games.

In conclusion we know that teams including the ORIOLES can fall out of it. We also know some games on the schedule late may be meaningless for contenders as well. I really don’t see a path to the playoffs for the ORIOLES unless they finish 3rd in the division. The MARINERS schedule late is extremely weak. Unless they scuffle in the next 20 the odds of them falling are very slim. One potential help for the ORIOLES is the fact that TOR and TB play each other 9 games. One series is 4 and one is 5 games. The best thing for  BAL is for one team to dominate the other. Although the ORIOLES can win the season series with TOR and cannot with TB I still think the best odds are to catch TB. The BLUE JAYS upcoming schedule puts them to go on a run if they play well. Of course it is also entirely possible the 2nd place team in the CENTRAL beats out the 3rd place team in the EAST.  I know the ORIOLES are going to have to get to X number of wins to have a chance but at the end of the day they need to finish in 3rd place to have the most realistic chance.

Great breakdown.  Just feels like the O’s are starting to run out of steam the last 10 days or so.  Going 1-3 (with all losses being by one run) vs. BOS and CHC has really hurt.  Hopefully Gunnar is called up this week to give the team a lift.

I think it's actually good the O's play more contenders the rest of the way because it allows them to truly impact the final standings. Win and you're in. Hopefully the team can win more than they lose going forward.

I could do without the 7 against Houston.

There's no dual benefit of playing the AL West Champs.

The coming week will really be a huge test .. CWS for 3 then on the road for 3 against Hou and 3 in Cleveland .. if we go 5-4 I will be very happy lol

The key to beating the WS is to have guys steal second when the hitter has a 1-2 count.

The town drunk will just give you a free baserunner.

Anyone see the stunt he pulled with Kopech?

Unreal that a full quarter of our remaining regular season games from this point are against Toronto.

MLB, do better scheduling.

Having the 3 game series with Toronto moved from the 1st week of the season to being tacked on at the end due to the lockout is part of why that is.

Obviously we need to win almost every series from here on in.   But I would say we absolutely NEED to take at least one game from Chicago, though 2 or 3 would be much preferable.

But taking 1 game keeps us ahead of them in the standings AND clinches the head to head tiebreak against them.   One is an absolute must.

Seeing the same team over and over stinks for the fans.

My take on the balance of the schedule is a terrible cliche.

We've got to play them one at a time.  Watching our Manager I'd say he's doing it an inning at a time.

This has been a fun season but these close games, night after night, are making me nuts.  I'm taking this way too seriously.  I mean it's not real life.  No, it's more important than that.

Need a laugher tonight.

    • I don’t consider a 4 o’clock game a night game. He also caught Wednesday night and Thursday day this week. Moral of the story is McCann will start 4 games in 7 days because he is Burnes preferred catcher.
    • It is absolutely possible. In 2022, the Mets gave a QO to Bassitt, Nikki, and DeGrom. The Red Sox gave a QO to Boegarts and Eovaldi. The Yankees gave a QO to Judge and Rizzo. The Dodgers gave a QO to Turner and Anderson. I know that it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Santander will not be on the team after this season, and while I generally agree that it is more probable than not that he will not be re-signed, I do think there is a non-zero chance that he will be retained. I think he is the most likely of Mullins, Hays, and himself to be retained, even if it is a small chance. The team has told us how they feel about his bat because he plays essentially everyday, and I have heard Kostka say that they value his clubhouse presence.
    • Santander won’t get a QO, and if he did, he would accept. His defense is declining and we have too many capable youngsters who should replace him effectively. But to your question, I don’t know if there’s a limit, but I doubt it.
    • O's will probably have to wait till July for a trade because there are so many more buyers than sellers.  I think teams like the Blue Jays, Rays Tigers and Mets are likely to be sellers but they are still in the race although not very good teams as constituted.
    • No Scott. He’s way too undependable. We need someone who WON’T enter a game and walk folks like he’s promoting a healthy lifestyle. He’s been a lot bette4 this season, but he’s too undependable, and we already have too many of those. No Flaherty either. That’s like taking your GF back after she cheated on you.
    • The team's continued success has really put Elias on the spot IMO and I don't see a Flaherty type as an option anymore.  My money is on a sensible trade that comes at a price high enough that most of us here, including myself, won't like, but a premium comes with having bad luck and that's where the O's are at the moment.
    • I would be very surprised if every last one of the GM's Elias talks to about quality starting pitching doesn't start by asking about Westburg and the rest.  Again, I think it's a mistake to believe that the O's have a ton of leverage here.  They certainly have some, and Elias is smart and disciplined, but I don't see any bargains.  I especially don't see the luxury of acting like youth and multiple years of control is any kind of rigid starting point for the O's.
