You could space out the suspensions over a week or two, or allow teams to call up guys from the 40 man roster.

Sure. Hey, suspend the manager without pay for 10 games and see how fast these guys put a stop to this nonsense.  Whatever you choose you just need a deterrent to something in which there really no incentive to doing.   It’s a total waste of time.  Occasionally, it leads to something worse.

Baker is definitely demonstrative out there.  Would have rather he just walked back to the dugout (especially since he still gave up a run in the inning), but still, his motion toward the dugout in no way warranted them coming out.  Don't know what it is about TOR that makes everyone that plays there turn into an ***hat.  We gave Gausman like how many chances, and he wants to run his mouth about us.  I don't get it.

Yeah, I don't remember Gausman ever being a hothead with us.  But between his comments earlier this year and him exploding at the umpire on the balk call... Toronto just seems to bring out the douche somehow.

That has really helped in the NBA.

Last night there wasn't even an inside pitch or anything, just guys talking. BJs really escalated the situation by leaving the bench. If there had been a fight it would have been completely their fault.

Yes, you can. One game. Forfeit the next game. See if they keep doing it

Nobody is ever going to agree to a forfeit ahead of time that costs them potentially $millions in revenues because a bunch of 25-year-old dudes couldn't control themselves quite well enough in the moment.

And if you were to give suspensions to anyone who leaves the dugout/bullpen there would probably be unintended consequences.  Like teams would unofficially designated a reliever and a utility guy as the goons who run out there and agree to get suspended. Or some pitchers would feel freed up to jaw and throw inside without fear of any repercussions, although I don't think the risk of standing around while 52 guys mill about and have an insult-fest is any kind of deterrent.

Anyway, suspending everyone for a baseball fake fight seems like chopping off a hand for stealing a pack of gum.  Sure, it stops most stealing by sane people but is that really the world we want to live in?

They're overcompensating because of the "all Canadians are nice" stereotype.  Also, they're trying to give America pause just in case we decide to invade.  They know we'd have it wrapped up by lunch, but maybe we'd reconsider for a second if we remember that the Blue Jays are a little wacko.

They're more likely to invade us at this point.

Plus, they have like no Canadians on their roster!!!

They're a bunch of sweethearts, probably.

If Hyde is indeed a viable candidate for MoY, he handles this in the clubhouse before the game. His guys have to be crystal clear about what is at stake here. You have 7 more games to play and they mean the difference between going to the playoffs or going home. Throwing at, trying to antagonize or instigating a fight is just stupid. It does nothing to help you win. Ultimately the way you show Toronto who is tougher is to win the game, win the season series and win the WC spot.

Of course he'll tell them to knock it off and go win ballgames.

But the Manager of the Year, 99% of the time, goes to the manager of the team that most over-achieved. Even if the O's collapse the rest of the way they're guaranteed to improve by 25 games or so, I'm not sure how any other manager gets a first place vote.

MLBN was debating Hyde v Kevin Cash - who would be a three time winner.  Expectations obviously higher coming in, but the Rays have dealt with so many injuries, and are likely to finish ahead of the O's.  He'll get votes.

Sure, some people vote on the merits, some like to try to sell more ads and clicks and newspapers by voting and writing controversially.

Hyde took a team that was projected to win 60 couple games if things went right and they're probably going to win 85 games.  Good chance they end up with one of the 10 biggest leaps forward in baseball history.

Cash took a team that won 100 games last year, best in the league. Had some injuries and is now on pace to win 92.

If things stay on this track and Cash gets more than 2-3 first place votes it just proves some people will vote the opposite of what makes sense just to get attention.

To be clear, I absolutely agree with you.  Hyde is the clear winner if you ask me.  But it won't be unanimous or close to unanimous, I doubt.

What actually caused last night's bench clearing? Inning was over, strike out, and it looked like Baker just started jawing at Toronto's dugout

Blue Jays dugout was chirping the whole inning at the umpire and presumably Bryan Baker thought at him too. So he ks Chapman to end the inning and gestures that they should keep talking and I guess that was enough for an entire dugout to lose their s--t.

The Blue Jays organization has been a bunch of whiny Bs since the Bautista days.
