Hard to fathom this season. That long winning streak in July changed the season. Then I kept hoping they would hang around for another month, then another. Special run.

Elimination number is 1 so not officially eliminated but will be in the next day or so.

Am I disappointed? Sure.  But I have to say it feels good to be eliminated with 5 games left in the season instead of 5 months...

Agreed, and I have to admit I feel happy for The Mariners, who I think haven't been to the postseason since 2001.

Officially eliminated. The most games we can win is 86 and both Seattle and Tampa have already won 86 and they both own the tie breaker.

Hell of a season.  Never would have guessed that the Orioles would be playing meaningful baseball into the last week of September.

Need one more win for us to be above .500 and with the Yankees and Jays having already clinched, I think we can get it.  It'd be great to be at 83, 84 wins for the year.

I just have to say once again that the tie breaker stuff is horrible. Only Rob Manfred could look at classic Games 163 like Yankees-Red Sox '78 and Tigers-Twins '09 and think, "Wouldn't it be better if those races were just decided by head-to-head record?"

Wild and exciting season.   Hopefully they can build on it and make it even better next year.

In my own mind, we were pretty much eliminated when we lost 3 of 4 to Toronto at the beginning of the month.  That’s why I stopped updating the playoff odds thread several weeks ago.  The team needed to have a September that resembled July/August, and just ran out of steam.  

It’s still been a great surprise season.  Now Elias has the challenge of building on it and starting a good run of making the playoffs and contending for a World Series, and not letting the team roll backwards like it did in 1990.   It’s very common for teams that make a big jump to fall back a bit the next season. I’ll go into next year not assuming the team will have a better record than this year, even if they make some good personnel moves this winter.   But I’m certainly very hopeful we can take the next step.
