I think that if you have two guys that you view as close and one does well and the other has a fairly serious surgery before playing a game both factors are going to skew your view to some degree. It’s interesting that although it seemed like Druw Jones was the favorite pundit choice to be worthy of the 1:1 pick, Holliday seems to have picked up a lot of buzz since the Orioles picked him and he got his feet wet in pro ball. I need to go listen. But I wonder how much of that is related to the O's development system. Specifically, are Mayo/Callis (and other outside professionals?) seeing and buying into the type of prospect that we target and the development system that gets the most out of the talent? I guess it’s possible. This seems to be a surgery (posterior labrum tear on non-throwing shoulder) that hasn’t hampered players too much, but you never know. From what I recall the big question around Jones was his ability to hit meanwhile there were no questions on Holliday's hitting ability. For me, that always made him the logical choice between the two. I'm guessing now that people have seen his approach at the plate against better competition they feel more confident in him. Plus, Jones hasn't played so he hasn't had a chance to increase his stock it's just stayed where it was.

The podcast is here: https://www.stitcher.com/show/mlb-pipeline/episode/putting-a-bow-on-the-afl-208556272 The relevant portion begins at about the 73:45 mark, right towards the end of the podcast. Mayo and Callis actually each named their top 5. Jones was no. 2 on both lists; Termarr Johnson was no. 5 for Mayo and no. 3 for Callis. Callis also commented that he thinks Holliday is going to be so good that he may already be in the majors by July 2024. That would be a nice turn of events! By the way, this same podcast features a lengthy interview with Heston Kjerstad, starting at the 35:00 mark.

Holliday could have a higher ceiling, but considering Rodriguez is so close, I never seriously considered putting him ahead. That's not to say that Holliday may not end up the best of all three, just that Henderson and Holliday are so close it would hard take him over them. Regardless, 1-1 looking like 1-1!
