Astros just traded for Bligh Madriss and added him to their 40 man. Doesn't mean he's making the team and this doesn't mean O'hearn is either.

True, but Roch did mention O'Hearn as a solution to the Orioles need for a lefty first baseman, as if this move accomplished that. Fair to think the Warehouse tells him to try and peddle these moves to try to sell them to Orioles fans.

Are you Ryan O'Hearn?

Because you have to admit that it makes sense if you are.

Except that I also got the message about O’Hearn.  And not only am I not him, I’m not even a close relative.   In fact, I don’t think I could have told you that there was a guy named Ryan O’Hearn who’d played in MLB.

You’d think at some point Roch would be embarrassed of his reporting but he seems to have no dignity.

Roch isn’t an independent journalist, the man has bills like the rest of us. People have got to give him a break and get their hot takes elsewhere.

Did they really need to send a Welcome to Birdland email to me  for this ridiculous transaction.

That and double the minimum suggest decent roster odds.

It would be a deft turn of phrase though if the cash considerations referred to were from KC to BAL to pay him down closer to the minimum.

But assuming any marginal expense above MLB minimum carries weight...is Franchy the roster victim?

Bench this morning: McCann, Urias, McKenna, Franchy

Bench this evening: McCann, Urias, McKenna, O'Hearn

Both these benches leave Vavra in AAA.     I still have Stowers starting DH over Urias, though Franchy-O'Hearn could challenge for this role along with backing up Mountcastle.

I get the outrage over the starting pitching. Not this.

This is a 26th man move. The club has no real backup at 1B in the system. They add someone who can hit LH and will play in a limited role. If Mountcastle gets hurt they are in trouble either way. With the shift rules, better home park and reasonable metrics I don’t get the complaints.

The only way they add a Josh Bell type would be to make a trade of an existing starting player. There is no way around that. It’s been evident Elias has not been ready to do that yet and if he does, it will more than likely be at a position of organizational strength such as middle infield. Those players dealt would be filled internally.

Unless you are dealing off Mountcastle or an OF what kind of position player do people expect?

How Urias will be handled will be the story. A big part of his game is his glove.

I wonder how they teach it at journalism schools these days how much independence from ownership is ethical to wear the badge honorably?      The current state of MASN is I guess an exaggerated case with BAL and WAS fighting over it - I don't see much from other team-owned adjacent media companies but imagine other products a little more robust.     They probably at least fly their people to camp.

Or other side of coin, how do the Orioles orientation to America programs position who Steve Melewski is for say Samuel Basallo?

A "reporter"?   I guess, but a chance for him to take reps "in a controlled environment".

Its entertainment content for a product I enjoy, but Woodward and Bernstein it is not.

Not that I wanted Hosmer, but he would have been preferable to O'Hearn.

Ironically, he’s cheaper than O’Hearn, since the Red Sox/Padres are on the hook for his salary for a couple more years.  And, he’s significantly better than O’Hearn, even if he’s grossly overpaid by those teams.   I didn’t want him, but I’d rather have him than O’Hearn.
