You don’t make the playoffs by running your star catcher into the ground.  Mauer for example never played in more than 146 games in the years when he was playing C.   I think that’s about what Adley will play.   He played 113 of 122 last year.

113 of 122 is 92.6% of the game.   That would be 150 of 162.   I can see that happening.

You guys seem to be choking on the 162 games.  The O's play on average 27 games a month.   This is catching 20 games and DHing 7 per month.   That should be plenty of rest for a 25 year old.

I will not argue about whether is catches 115 or 120 games.  Its not worth the key strokes.

He is the O's best offensive weapon.  They will want him in there as much as possible.  Saying he should play 158 game vs 162 doesn't seem like much of an argument.

You've obviously never worn the "tools of ignorance." Catching 120 games is tough to do physically. Then to expect him to have no rest at all by DHing the other 42 is just non-sensical.  If you overuse him and he is fatigued and dinged up, he will cease to be "the O's best offensive weapon." 140-145 games is really best case scenario.

Not to pile on, but 162 games isn't a realistic projection. For context, Salvatore Perez played 161 games in 2021 and it was considered an anomaly/outlier. He also proceeded to get injured the following year and only played 114 games in 2022. I think 140ish games seems like a more realistic prediction for this Rutschman this season.

I think the idea of a “plan” for Rutschman is much less complicated than some are making it.  He’ll catch 4 or 5 games a week and sit or DH 1 or 2 depending on matchups, injuries, need for rest, etc..  There’s no grand scheme or great need to plan his season out at this point.

As plans go it doesn't get much more simple than play him every game.

The point of the plan to be part of the overall plan for the team so they know what to expect from the offense.    Do you really think that the Orioles have not already mapped all this out?

As analytic as this team is they have done many versions of this.

I’d love to see their plan that includes 162 games of Adley.
