Depleting the system means that the system isn’t deep. That’s factually wrong.

You aren’t depleting the system with 1 or 2 trades unless you are dealing 10 prospects for 2 players…which wasn’t and isn’t going to happen and not anything being discussed.

Just because you look deep on paper doesn't mean you are deep with future major league talent.

Who from the organization are you willing to give up, and what do you think they return?

Guys like Westburg, Mayo, Norby aren't bringing us guys that make us WS contenders in return.

You don’t know what deals were considered and rejected by Mike Elias.  Just because you think deals could and should be made is a fan’s opinion, not a fact.  And  it presumes that somehow Elias chose not to do so because he doesn’t want success is something I reject.
Clearly Mike disagrees with you.  So do I.  If the right deal is available, he will pull the trigger at any point and if not then he will continue to build resources in other ways.

I don’t know that it’s a case of him disagreeing more than it’s a case of him not being allowed to do things. There is a huge difference there.

Now, we do disagree on how he should have spent the money he did. I’ll gladly be on the other side of the fence for that one, especially w/r/t Frazier.

Lol..everyone should be available in the right move.

And those guys absolutely can be parts of packages to bring back valuable assets. It’s foolish to think otherwise.

But we are deep with future major league talent.  We have 8 prospects in the BA top 100, and you could pick almost any prospect ranking system and find that they have a similar ranking of our prospects.

A guy like Westburg would slot in as a top-1 or top-2 prospect on like 7 or 8 teams.

Right..and to add to this, they have 12 different guys that appeared on the major top 100 lists.  And most of them are or are close to ML ready.

Acting like this team isn’t deep is a good way of saying you aren’t paying attention to anything.  It’s just a foolish point to try to make.

No one is saying that. What you somehow can't rationalize is that other teams are not in a hurry to be making these kinds of trades right now. That is a glaring fact that everyone in the industry is saying and you can't get that through your head for whatever reason.

And what team is going to give up a top of rotation starter for what you consider excess depth?

Someone literally just said that they aren’t bringing back guys to help us win a WS, so yes someone is saying that. Follow along.  It’s not hard.

Guys have been traded this offseason that could have helped us. Agreed that not a lot of guys were dealt but I’m guessing you could have gotten creative and sounds teams willing to take top talent that is cheap and under contract for 6 or 7 years.

I don’t think baseball teams have stopped caring about that.

We were talking about trades ..
Angelos doesn’t tell Elias what trades to make does he?  Free agents, budget, development costs etc yes but if you have evidence that Elias can’t make trades I would like to see it.

It’s up to the Orioles to prove the assessments wrong.   I’m fine with any grade between C and D+ for now.   Would be happy to be eating crow at the end of the year.

If the Orioles win 90 games this season, but it's largely not because of anything they did this offseason, have the O's proven the assessments wrong?  And were they wrong?
