Tate to begin year on IL plus other notes

Depending on how things go with Tate, maybe since he's got two options, that he's not a given to come back right away.  

Tate does provide flexibility since they can store him in Norfolk until they're 100% sure he's ready.

I don't see any scenario where they dump both Akin and Perez and leave Danny Coulombe as the only left-handed pitcher on the entire roster.

More likely that they cut back down to two catchers and sit pitcher-heavy for a little while, especially with the way the pen has been getting used and abused.

There's an MLB limit for how many pitchers a 26 man roster can have.

I think he's gone after the game tonight.  If it's been 10 games we could see Ortiz back.  But with an open spot on the 40 man roster, then maybe Westburg gets the call.
