This may be an unpopular opinion, but IMO Anthony planted about 6 inches too far forward and jumped a split second too soon, or it wouldn’t have seemed like such a spectacular catch.  Not that I’m complaining.   It wasn’t an easy play, and he made it.  That’s the bottom line.

So basically you are saying he "Stowers-ed" it lol. JK, ducking

He definitely made that harder than it needed to be. Bad route, got all twisted and, as you said, mistimed the jump.

All that matters is that he caught it.

So over in the Hays thread there’s been a diversion about whether Santander could be non-tendered this winter.  I’ll answer here.

I think it’s really unlikely that would happen.  Santander is a streaky but solid hitter, who has value.  If we don’t want him, he can be traded easily IMO.

I think it’s possible…but it would take him being hurt/missing time and putting up poor numbers..also, further defensive drop off from what we saw last year.

It’s a lot to happen and it certainly could but I tend to agree that they could trade him.

Santander unless something drastic happens to his performance or health this season is going to have trade value and in no way he should be non-tendered.

WBC hangover over?

MLB and the MLBPA like the WBC to grow the game globally.    Many of the best USA pitchers don't care about it (or their Owners/GM's have enough pull to put some guardrails on for example Gerrit Cole's or Spencer Strider's use), but I think its the Olympics for many foreign nationals.

Club fans worrying about Santander or Kremer or Ohtani might also I guess have worried about Mike Eruzione or Jim Craig putting it all out for Herb Brooks.

If the four most important Orioles are who we hope they are, they could all be absent from 2026 camp more than Kremer was this spring.

I really like Anthony. He's a happy, charming guy who plays an important role on this team even if he's not a shining star by WAR standards. It's been fun to watch him grow as a hitter over the years. His improved batting eye last year helped him become a better hitter, and he seems to have improved it again this year. Three year OBP track of .286-.318-.350.

He's also the longest tenured Oriole at least in terms of debut— his first O's appearance was a few weeks before Hays in 2017.

The Hays-Mullins-Santander outfield isn't as iconic as "2110 Eutaw St" but I'll enjoy it if we get to watch them in a playoff series together before the group disbands. Those three guys are the three longest continuously tenured players on the roster and, along with Means, the only survivors of the truly dark ages of 2017-2019.

2nd to only Aaron Judge in AL wRC+ for May to date after the big night last night.    Soto, Freeman and Lourdes Gurriel the only NL guys ahead of him.

Arizona with the early upper hand on Toronto on their big trade this past offseason.

1.67 seasons to go, but maybe Santander is playing his way towards Qualifying Offer consideration.

I wonder what Orioles’ threesome played the most games together in the outfield.  Jones/Markakis played a ridiculous number of games together but the third outfielder changed very frequently between 2008 and 2014.  Of the top of my head I’d think the candidates are:

Robinson/Blair/Buford, 1968-72.

Bumbry/Singleton/Roenicke, 1978-84

I don’t think there’s any easy way to find the answer to this question.  Calling @DrungoHazewood

Devo & Anderson 89-94 + 96 has to be up there for a two-some.

    • Haynie on 105.7, has been beating the Luis Robert drum for months on the O’s pre game show. So I think that’s why people like the idea of Robert. Robert also is always hurt.  We need a bat. Probably a RH bat to DH in the playoffs versus a LH SP. That bat is Mayo. It’s just hard to get Mayo up before September when we get the extra roster spot.
    • Holliday went 1 for 2 with 3 walks on Friday night. 2024: .444 OBP, .911 OPS MiLB Career: .447 OBP, .931 OPS His OBP is EXACTLY what this O's team needs, would fill a key offensive weakness at 2nd base, help grind opposing pitching, and magnify the power up and down the lineup.  It's all dependent on his ability to throw and play 2B at a passable level. If Holliday starts to hit at the ML level, the question of who bats leadoff is over for the foreseeable future and we can go back to complaining about 1 slumping hitter or backup catcher at the bottom of the lineup.
    • This. We literally have no lineup holes right now, and Mayo, Norby, Jax lurk. Any trade discussion should center around the four most essential and crucial elements to O's success for the balance of the regular season and playoffs: 1. pitching 2. pitching 3. pitching 4. damn, forgot the 4th one. oh yeah, its pitching.
    • All I know is that Suárez has earned at least one more start, after today.
    • Scherzer still looks like a guy who would be a nice add to our rotation in the second half if the Rangers are sellers.
    • Not happening. I don’t disagree, but Kremer will be slotted in the rotation.
    • I wouldn’t either but the word here is that he’s going back to rotation . Suarez supposedly the one  to be moved to bullpen . I think they should wait and see if Irvin can rebound . If Irvin can’t match Suarez’s work, then he should be moved to bullpen
