Perez did not look good in save opportunity

And how has Cano looked? You gotta pick one of these guys. Perez has had 8 of 9 scoreless appearances. The last one he got two quick outs, a hard hit ball that should have been an out, and a pitcharound walk to Realmuto. I was pretty fine with that appearance although he still makes me nervous for sure.

I disagree.  He got two quick outs, then Mateo fsiled to catch a liner within his reach.  Realmuto had a great at bat in which he took three close pitches that a lot of hitters would have swung at with two strikes, then walked.  Then the final batter hit a routine ground out.  I consider that a solid outing.

Cano just needs more rest, what Felix is doing with so little rest is not humanlike.

Yeah, I agree with this. I'm confused why Hyde and coaches decided before the game Bautista was unavailable but Cano was good to go. Cano has pitched in every game Bautista has, if I'm not mistaken, often throwing more pitches, and you have your MASN analyst saying every time he comes in that he has a possible mechanical issue attributable to fatigue.

The manager should have a pretty good idea which pitcher’s are fatigued and which are not.  It’s possible that Cano might have mechanical issues that have nothing to do with fatigue.  He faced 4 RH batters today.  Two pounded the ball slowly to the SS.   One found the hole between 3B and SS.  The other was Castellanos.   On 0-1 he threw a sinker right down the middle that Castllanos swung over and completely missed.   Next pitch was described as a changeup started above and finishing below the knees and Castellanos swung over for strike 3.   Cano was throwing 96-97 with movement and throwing strikes.  He didn’t look fatigued to me.   He fell behind on two close pitches to Harper and the next pitch wasn’t terrible, just what Harper does.   The one really bad pitch of the inning was the hanging changeup to Stott.

I would guess if it's close we will see Bautista tomorrow but not Cano. That will give Cano two off days before the Yanks after Bautista gets his two days.

Cano gets an easy grounder and a dominant K.   The two LH batters were Bryce Harper and Stott whose batting 4 and having a big season.   He threw strikes and wasn’t that bad.  He got beat.  Fuji looked like a poor man’s Bautista tonight.   I’ll take our bullpen but one more Bednar type wouldn’t exactly hurt.

Agree with you here. The other guys get paid too — one of them is hitting .300 and one of them is a 2x MVP. Sometimes good hitters beat solid pitching…the classic “tip your cap” scenario. Especially when we gave them an extra out.

Also, it’s a little reminder of how special (and how valuable) Felix’s bat-missing ability is. No contact is almost always better than even weak contact. There’s no errors, infield hits, or seeing-eye singles when the batter has to walk back to the dugout. It’s been a massive gift to have a guy who thus far has been able to plow through hitters like this.

Hopefully by then Elias will have acquired 1-2 relievers for the stretch run.

Cano has done very well this year, a true out of nowhere surprise.  But I have zero faith in him at the moment.  His ball is not sinking like it did to start the season and I would prefer we didn't see him in the 8th or later anymore.  I was watching with my father, and we both said we'd rather see Fuji come back out in the 9th rather than Cano.  Four saves, five blown saves. 'Nuff said.

I get why Hyde did it, but still...  A late inning bullpen addition is a must.

Hyde said in the post-game that they decided before the game that Felix wasn’t available. I guess the only late inning option was YC. He’s gotten pummeled of late. They gotta figure that out. Can’t keep running him out there for him to let inherited runners score and lose winnable games. The Rays won tonight so they pick up a game on the O’s.

The O’s are legitimately in a try to win every night mode now. No off days.

He had given up 1 run in his last 7 innings of work if that is pummeled i dont know what you expect.   I have no idea where people are getting how he has been getting crushed for awhile.  Since the All star break he has 6 IP 6 hits 0BB 4 k's and 1 R.    He was never going to keep up that pace he started with but for the most part he has been solid

I don’t disagree but you shouldn’t use the whole save percentage thing for a setup man. They get holds rather than saves but still get a blown save if they give up the lead.

BTW, watching the condensed game the pitch to Stott was not a hanging changeup but a 97 mph sinker that he turned on.  Not as bad of a pitch as  first thought.   Harper drove a 91 mph changeup knee high on the outside corner to LF.   Cano wasn’t awful last night.   Fuji looked dominant.  If that’s Fuji going forward that’s a pretty good threesome.

Bautista had to go 2 innings 1 game while Cano went 1 every game.  I think they are more concerned you can't lose Bautista because he isn't a guy you can replace.  Cano although very good you have guys you can trade for.
