What a special moment for Adley and his dad. 3rd best in first round. A shame he ran into Robert. And then Robert goes out and lays an egg in the semis. Oh well great moment for Adley, his family,  and the Orioles.

Robert looks tired. Maybe he should switch around and hit from the other side of the plate like a real man…..

I think this was the best scenario. Adley does the Orioles proud on the national stage with the most memorable performance but doesn't have to worry about the fatigue factor of doing this for multiple rounds.

Next HR derby.  Everyone takes 1/2 their swings from each side of the plate.  Makes it fair for everyone.

I grew up when the Home Run Derby was won by the player who hit the most home runs out of everbody. Now it's dependent on who they stuck you with in a direct head to head round.

Not sure how I feel about yhis format. Julio Rodriguez should have won both this year's and last year's based on how dominant he was in the 1st round. And yet he's not even in the final.

Vlad is a great player but he has less cardio than a lot of these guys.   He looks very very gassed at the end of every round.

Looking at how much energy these guys expend.......I am not sure it does any of them favors for the second half.

Folks have run 30 marathons in 30 days.

I doubt the fatigue from participating in a HR lingers all that long.

I give Vlad credit they made him go back-to-back with a minimal break. 25 is solid considering.

Overall the first round was much more interesting and fun. Everyone fell off after that.

I liked when the format was based on "outs" recorded when the batter hits the ball but doesn't hit a HR. There didn't used to be a timer. The batter could spit on bad pitches and swing when it looked hittable, and the pitcher didn't have to rush out a hundred pitches a minute. This new format seems to be tuned for the ADHD generation.

If it's any consolation, it took Robert 12 more swings to hit one more home run than Adley. His pitcher was much quicker.
