2.45 ERA since June 5, with a greatly reduced walk rate.

Yeah and throws very hard. As a relief prospect this looks like a potential steal to me. Here's some of his savant data. Only a 4.94 FIP to go with that 8.57 ERA.

Hope he gets that extra $100K for World Series MVP.  Lol.  But I think it's a reasonable pick up that does not cost too much.  We still have the second lowest payroll.

https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/oakland-as-ink-3-25m-deal-with-japanese-pitcher-shintaro-fujinami/

Fujinami would earn $100,000 for MVP, $75,000 for finishing second in the voting and $50,000 for third, and he can earn similar bonuses for Cy Young Award balloting. He would get $50,000 for making the All-Star Game, $100,000 for World Series MVP or Silver Slugger, and $50,000 for Gold Glove or League Championship Series MVP.

He will be a free agent at the end of the contract.

In years past I would mock the futility of these type moves.  However after seeing Cano and Bautista I am willing to give them the benifit of the doubt.  If they can figure something out his sheer speed might make he quite valuable.  Can we play in Norfolk?

If we get out of him what we got out of Voth after we picked him up last year when he was sporting a 10+ ERA for the Nats....

I've learned poking around last few minutes that I guess in the Japanese draft's 1st round, several Clubs can pick the same Player and then there's a lottery to determine who truly gets rights.

Here's his 2012 draft year....four of the 12 Clubs thought Shintaro Fujinami 4.12.1994 was worth trying for.

Nippon Ham zigged when a lot of the league zagged and alone chose Shohei Ohtani 7.5.1994.
