Tons of rumors that White Sox are asking for Holliday..  hang the phone up!

They can have Holliday for Crease......

And Colson Montgomery... and Noah Schultz... and Nick Nastrini... and Luis Robert.

In other words.... sure, Holliday's on the table if they want to be stupid.

Wells has shown flashes of really good, maybe he's just over-worked right now and he could return in a BP role. Why deal a decent arm to gain another decent arm?  If we can't get a decent arm for surplus position players, what's the point?  We need to add another ML arm right now to get more innings, not swap for a marginal gain.

Wells was our best starter.

They messed up his rotation at the break, and he didn't pitch for 9 days.

That ended him.

The fact Ed Rod actually puts the Orioles on a limited list of three teams does kind of change my mind on picking him up.  Detroit has no way to bargain.  He is going to walk in the fall.  He now will be annoyed at the team.  The team will be annoyed at him.  Detroit needs to trade him for whatever he possibly can get.  I would low ball Detroit or just walk.  Take it or leave it.

Aren't there instances in baseball when a no-trade clause triggers after a certain amount of service time or some such? I was under the impression that's why they're more common in baseball than other sports. Don't know the specifics on ERod or Verlander though.

Yes:  10 years in the majors, 5+ years with the current team.   Then a player has a right to veto any trade, as Adam Jones did.

Do we know if that list of 3 teams was posted by a reliable source?

I don't know that anyone would be "annoyed".    I think you get past that type of thing pretty quickly.

I'm not sure I want our best starter to be someone who can't take 9 days off without completely losing his ability to pitch effectively.
