It won't surprise me if the Orioles also miss the playoffs next year unless they figure things out. And even if they do make it, are they talented enough to win enough to even make it worthwhile? We will have to wait and see, and not matter what people say in this forum, there is a lot of hope being thrown around, and hope isn't a strategy. Let's be real now.....
I agree. I also think the platoon mentality becomes self fulfilling in that our guys don't get the chances they need to develop against same side pitching, especially left on left. For example, Kjerstad has only 17 AB against LHP.
Then again, Mullins and O'Hearn are absolutely unplayable vs lefties, but they have some value so I get it. Now that we are losing Santander we might expect even more of this platoon style unless he is replaced.
Actually, it was pretty accurate. You don't trade top bullpen talent for Austin Hayes, and then a minor leaguer for Soto. The Phillies clearly did not have confidence in those guys enough to think they were key to a world series championship, otherwise they would not have traded them for what they got back.
The funny thing about DET and KC, and about discussing them in this way, is that they really don’t even have enough good players to replicate “injuries like we had” — let alone having enough talent left over to still make the playoffs after losing that much.
The fact that they got past one round of the playoffs by wining meaningful games, in my mind, says that have been more successful. We can get to the playoffs, but we can't seem to win the games, even with some very well-pitched games.
