Scoreboard watching

It is crazy that the AL East is so good.  And because of that everyone is still alive.  Have been watching scoreboards/standings for most of the season.  But the drive to the end begins in earnest with the trade deadline.  When the smoke clears from there it's gonna be a hard ride.

The good thing is, since the Yanks and Red Sox stand to benefit from it this year, the balanced schedule may be here to stay.

Best record in the AL over the last 50 games.

True but they have gained a half game on us in that span.   We are 29-21 and the Jays are 30-21 since game number 50.   As long as we keep playing well it won't matter how hot they get because they were so far behind.

I don't love the extra interleague play - I would prefer more same-league, other division games.  But at least it doesn't feel like the AL East is beating the crap out of each other and everyone else laughs their way to the playoffs.

My dislike for the extra interleague play is softened by the fact that the NL Introduced the DH.  At least both leagues are playing the same game now.

Barely! Just a 1/2 game diff with the O's. And if we look at only June/July (convenient to look up), the slate is crowded at the top with 1.5 games separating the top three--and the Yankees have key players who have either just returned or soon will:

Baltimore 27-18

Toronto 27-19

Boston 26-20

Tampa Bay 22-24

The Bronx 19-24

Astros kind of trolling the Rangers as they've taken the first two of their series to cut a 3-game lead down to 1 and, oh by the way, we're activating Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve tonight.

Fun week ahead for Dana Brown and Chris Young, both in the pilot seat for the first time at the trade deadline.   Mike Elias has all that veteranosity edge.
