That’s part of it…could they be moving some younger assets, even a guy like Cowser, in a deal for starters while also bringing in this guy?

I mean, they just drafted what they hope is their CFer of the future but he’s probably not ready until 2025 And then you see.

I do think Cowser could be a guy moved in the right deal but it shouldn't be for a rental. Now, Cowser could end up the left fielder of the future here but he's not the CF of the future and you have to think they are thinking RF for Kjerstad.

Saying that, if he could bring a good starter or impact reliever with at least another full year on the contract I would imagine the Orioles would listen, especially if they could swing and stop gap CF to replace him in the deal or an accompanying deal.

How about Easton Lucas?

That's a good point. If Easton Lucas can bring back Fuji, Rom should have some value. At some point Rom is going to go to the pen and see how he looks in that Vespi kind of role or in the Akin type of role.

I like Carlson as a buy low target. If nothing else, he could fill the Hicks role for beyond this year as an ideal 4th OF - good defensively and can handle CF, switch hitter but better vs LHP. Complements the rest of the OF very well.

Offensively, he’s got a good BB rate with a decent K rate, and underperforming his xWOBA quite a bit this year. It seems like the key to improvement is unlocking more power, and if the Orioles can do that with Adam Frazier than they can do it with anybody.

I could see trading for Carlson in conjunction with doing another deal like Cowser and Ortiz for Cease.  We can already absorb the loss of an Ortiz with our other middle infield prospects, and trading for Carlson would help mitigate the loss off a Cowser, IMO.

Cowser is the CF of the future, is he not? At least until Bradfield makes it up. So unless Cowser is a trade chip then interest in Carlson seems weird. Elias never does what we all expect him to do though. So we’ll probably see him trade away pitching for a SS.

Cowser is a big piece of the future that can play some CF in regular season games. You don’t want Cowser being overmatched at the plate and on defense for this year when every game matters.

Carlson makes sense. He’s a “sure up” move for CF right now, and for next year he’s a replacement for Hicks. He also gives us a Switch Hitting insurance policy CF until Bradley gets here.

Simply put he’s a SH CF and we’re in a championship hunt. However, it appears that Cardinals view other players higher and he’s almost like their Norby.

No, Cowser is not the CFer of the future.
