If they stay with a 5 man rotation Means should replace Flaherty, and if they go back to a 6 man rotation I’d swap Irvin and Flaherty’s roles.

I hope this is exactly what they try next.  I'm not expecting much from Means, but he's worth a try at this time.

This is what makes sense to me too.  I don't really see a situation where they leave him off the Playoff roster.  As poor as he has been so far, I think they find some role for him over a few others.  I can't imagine them throwing in the towel on him either.  That just seems silly to me.

The assumption here is that Means will be able to get MLB hitters out consistently. That's not an inconsequential assumption. I hope he can. But I'm not sure it is reasonable to expect him to be lights out. IMHO he's a back of the rotation guy until he proves he's not. Oh, and that bullpen will have to pitch a hell of a lot better than it did last night for the O's to do anything in the playoffs. 13-12 regular season wins are one thing. Playoff baseball is a completely different animal.

How much baseball have you watched?  Don't most starters walk off the mound while the manager and the rest of the players are huddled up on the mound and waiting for the reliever to come in?

This is silly.

Well I am in my 40s and I have watched baseball every year since I was 2.

Also played little league through HS and college.  Dad was a pro player and a college coach.

So yeah.

I think Flaherty has "proved he's not" so it's next man up. Irvin is a better option than Flaherty if Means bombs out.
