The 1998 Yankees started their season 1–4 and got outscored 36–15 in the process. They lost four out of five from July 16–20, four in a row from August 23–26, four out of five from September 2–7, and five out of six from September 11–16. They finished with 114 wins, a +309 run differential, and a World Series title.

In the rest of the games not including these bad streaks, the Yankees that year went 110-27 (.802 W%).

I remember the O’s, after their wire to wire job in ‘97, got off to a nice lead in ‘98 on the Yankees out of the box, going 10-2 to start the season and building a 2.5 game lead on the Yankees.  It didn’t go too well after that.
