Popular Post Sydnor
Flippin’ Bats is a podcast with Ben Verlander for those who have no listened to it before. It was a generally lighthearted conversation, but I’ll point out a few of the things that he said: * He said Ripken is in the clubhouse sometimes and he likes to talk to him about defense because they are both bigger shortstops. * He said if he got Ohtani money, the first thing he would buy is a big plot of land somewhere. * He said he and Adley are very similar in golf, and that whoever wins is who is putting better that day. * He said he thought the lease was done when they put it on the video board at Camden Yards. * He was asked whether the Orioles had reached out to him about an extension. He responded “not that I’m aware of.” * He indicated that he is open to or would like to talk about an extension because he likes Baltimore and could see himself playing there for a number of years. I did this from memory. Outside of not that I’m aware of, nothing is a direct quote. It’s about a 20 minute conversation. 1
Sports Guy
The extension stuff is a bit disheartening and totally predictable.
Aglets
So is Gunnar lying or is Boras lying? I suppose both could be telling the truth if Boras was fielding calls..........but keeping them from his client?

As a licensed attorney, it would be against the applicable code of professional conduct for Boras to keep that from his client.

Aglets
Gut instinct would be that Boras is lying. But on the other hand.............the phrasing 'not that I'm aware of' can be very strategic when you don't want to answer a particular question. As I'm sure Frobby can attest to as a licensed attorney. heh Edited December 14, 2023 by Aglets
Can_of_corn
Or both are lying. Both could be lying. That's my guess.
Frobby
Just now, Pickles said: Somebody's lying then. I took Boras remark as a flippant joke, not necessarily to be relied on for truth. But anyway, the question was about both Holliday and Henderson, as I recall. So if he’s gotten calls about Holliday that would render his comment true enough. Sports Guy
Boras never said the Os have called me about Gunnar. He made an off handed comment about his clients but that could be other people or it could have just been a comment made in gest. We have no idea the context of it, if he was laughing, etc…

But I did tell clients, if someone walks into a room with a wet umbrella and someone asks you under oath if it’s raining outside, the correct answer is “I don’t know.”
waroriole
I mean of course this joke of a team hasn’t contacted Gunnar’s reps about an extension. Not sure why Boras keeps singing their praises.

I'm pretty sure Boras' lips don't move when he texts. I'm not sure about John...

Would that still be the case if they had previously spoken about exactly what a signable extension would look like? Does he need to present him with all offers as they come in, or only if an offer that they had previously agreed could work came in?
