This is the place to discuss the new signees. I will update this post as info comes out and once I have some discussions.

According to MLB.com, " The Orioles have come to terms with outfielder Stiven Martinez and shortstop Emilio Sanchez, a pair of top 30 international prospects, as the 2024 signing period opened Monday.

The duo reached agreements of $950,000 and $1.3 million respectively, according to an industry source. The club has not yet confirmed the deals.

Baltimore has a pool of $7,114,800 to spend during the signing period."

Emilio Sanchez - SS: "We're super excited and feel he's a five tool player who hits from the left side. We feel he can remain at SS. He's a plus runner for his age and shows plus arm strength. We feel he has the ability to develop into a star-caliber player.

Stiven Martinez - CF: "A tall, lean, lanky 16-year old with tremendous raw power and a huge arm."

Jamone Nuel - SS: "A very toolsy guy who didn't get as much buzz as some others but we feel that he's just as talented and can move up the line pretty quickly."

Angel Garcia - OF: "He's a big power hitting, corner outfielder with plenty of speed and strength."

Yaki Mondesir - RHP: "6-3, righthander with a very good arm." 

Esteban Mejía - RHP: "Also solid. Good arm and projection."

The scouting reports on the offense are similar between mlb and BA but conflict on the defense of Martinez.   MLB:

On defense, Martinez has the speed, arm strength and athleticism to stay in center field. He also has the power to profile as a corner outfielder in the future if he outgrows the position. What’s certain is that he has tons of athleticism and upside.
 

BA:

Martinez has a strong arm but is limited to an outfield corner, with some risk he ends up at first base depending how he develops physically.

Have we reached the point yet where we’ve been spending our full int’l pool?  This year it is $7.1 million. Just wondering.

We’ve been spending the whole allotment the last two years or so.   They usually hold back 500K or more for late signings like Prieto in 2022 and Jordan Sanchez in 2023.

The Orioles have developed a pretty established way they do this. They sign one to two $1-2 million types, they try and get a few $400K-600K types, they sprinkle in the rest while keeping $500kish of money for the late available signees.

So far the early results looks good, but we'll see if that's better than putting all the eggs in one basket like the Braves, Padres, Twins and Yankees tend to do. 

Personally considering the age where these agreements happen at, I like going with the more chances approach.

If we are to believe the ratings, which are subjective and preliminary, Martinez at 55 would slot in no worse than 7th of O’s prospects and Sanchez no worse than 11th.

Jemone Brown may actually go by Jemone Nuel, per his IG post and Melewski’s Twitter post.
 

I think Frainner Chirinos has also been confirmed.

The front office still seems to love their shortstops. That does us little good if we have a log jam of position players and you're going to keep hoarding them instead of strengthening the organization's pitching.

Positions at this age don’t mean much, so much can change with the maturation process. Plus you want the best  athletes

Sounds like the O’s didnt have as much success signing guys this year compared to the last couple.  I doubt they left $2 mm in reserve on purpose.
