Has he given any indications that he's capable of playing third or right at the ML level?

Or is he Torkelson with a better arm?

Because Torkelson with a better arm is Torkelson.

(Obviously I'm not comparing bats right now)

There are definitely people that think he can play 3rd.  Eleven errors isn’t some insane amount.

Roy said something similar last week.  While I agree that errors aren't a great tool for evaluating check out the number of chances.

Mayo has made two errors this weekend, one at 3B, one at 1B.  Today, with the bases loaded, he made a bad throw from 1B and all three runners scored.   Oops.  On Friday at 3B, Mayo flubbed a grounder and a runner scored from 3B.   That’s 14 errors on the year, 4 at 1B in only 13 starts there, 10 at 3B in 53 starts.

This is the Mayo I see when I watch games.  I used to suggest he would be Devers level with the glove at third.  But honestly he seems worse.

Arenado had 23 errors his final full year in the minors.  When he came up people thought he would be average at third.  Gunnar had a fair amount of throwing errors last year.  I still think he can play the position especially with coaching at the MLB level.

I'm not saying it's impossible, although I do doubt the coaching is going to make a big difference.

I don't think it is a good sign that they are trying him in right and first and he doesn't seem to be thriving anywhere.

Why would you move Westburg off of third for Mayo?

23 errors in 475 chances (.952).  Mayo has 11 errors in roughly 142 chances (.923) (don’t know exactly how many he had today).  That’s not close.

Putting errors aside, name one scout who’s said Mayo has excellent range.  I’ve never heard that.

Where did the ball end up that it allowed 3 runners to score?

I don’t know if he elected to throw home to try to get the force at home, or if he threw to 2B to try to start a DP.   There was one out when the play occurred.

Ground ball he fielded and threw to 2B for a double play.  The ball hit the runner in the back and went into LF.  They lost 3-2.

Yordan Alvarez was DH for 65 of 99 games for the Astros this year.

Call Mayo up and make him a full time DH.

It could work--you can make O'Hearn and Mountcastle a pure platoon at first base--but who goes to make room for Mayo?  If it's Urias or Mateo, you have no utility infielder anymore.

Westburg can play anywhere on the diamond. Heck, I'll bet he can fill in at 1B in a pinch.

True, but if Mayo is playing DH then there is nobody on the bench who can come in and play infield without giving up the DH.

It was a weird carom.  Looked like the LF was playing LCF.  He threw the ball from deep at 1B and it hit the runner, but not flush in the back.  The ball shot into shallow left field and continued into foul territory.  The LF & 3B weren’t anywhere close to it.

    • That's the real issue. I'm not a lining up expert, but after the second penalty, you have to talk to refs and get a clarification and adjust.
    • It's absolutely not hyperbole. They had Mike Macdonald who brought his excellent defensive calls and schemes and could have "promoted" Bisciotti's buddy to official "Owner's Boy" and actually kept a head coach that brought something.  Harbaugh brings nothing but poor clock management, hugging players in the middle of the game when the game is still on going, telling players he loves them after a TD, and other Pre-K school teacher stuff. Plus, did anyone see that tool putting his hand over his heart during Lift "Every Voice and Sing"? You ONLY put your hand over your heart during the National Anthem. That's it. Not during "God Bless America", not during "This land is your land," not during any song but The Star Spangled Banner as dictated in the US Flag code. I didn't see a single player or coach, black or white, doing that during that song, but there was Harbaugh over there virtue signaling.  I'm not making this about race or even saying anything about that song which will quickly get political, but Harbaugh either knew what he was doing and was virtue signaling or has no clue on etiquette. I'm guessing the former.
    • Yeah, I don't know why it took so many flags before Ronnie got the hint to move closer to the LOS.
    • True, but after reaching 5 IP just once all year with Aberdeen, he went 6 and 7, respectively, his last two times.
    • I agree with the first two questions and agree that this offseason will be big for the middle one. The Kimbrel move has been a failure as far as FA and we really haven’t dabbled much there yet.   This offseason we’ve got a new owner and any governors that existed before (which we know with Angelos family there always was) should be off. I love the hitters we’ve developed and the overall talent that has come through. And if we want to leverage our strength and trade from it, I’m good with that too. We just need more pitching all the way around and hope that Elias is reflective and creative on how to get that done.
    • Or, you’re waiting two minutes for the LH turn signal, the arrow goes green, and the first car is daydreaming or texting, cases a 3-5 second delay and you don’t make it through.
    • They had 1 delay of game last night and used a timeout to avoid another, the illegal procedure penalties are hard to judge. The Chiefs tackles were lining up the same way and not getting called for it. Stanley said the rule wasn't enforced the way the officials that were out at camp with them explained it, I doubt we see that much going forward. The holding call against Linderbaum that negated a big run by Lamar was an absolute joke. The penalties that I have the biggest problem with are the bonehead plays like Van Noy hitting Mahomes in the head and Marcus Williams taking a shot at Mahomes knees when he's going out of bounds. Those were huge plays too.
