Thanks, Dean, we needed that.  Baz was almost as good, but not quite.

Also, I’m super glad for Dean that Cano kept those runners from scoring.  Dean deserved that, the way he pitched.

That was fun to watch, nice pitch mix. Can’t believe he didn’t miss a start.

Great start.

That’s the frustrating thing about him; he can have a start like that but also not make it out of the 4th.

He has as much talent as any pitcher on our staff. It's all about consistency and hopefully we'll see more of "good Dean" moving forward. His pitching recently has been really encouraging.

I think he is the most underrated player on this team.

Each time I think he may have really settled in, he’ll blow up a start. Hyde seems to consistently rave about him this year.

Even though he hasn’t quite stepped into mid rotation caliber, he does bring value and I could see him really harnessing his stuff at one point in his career.

Yea I think that’s right. Progress isn’t always linear.  But I think he is progressing nicely and seemingly a bit under the radar.

Helluva start by Kremer. Typical bulldog Kremer outing. He has a knack for doing this in Boston too.

He’s our game 4 SP in an ALDS series, and a possible relief option in a wild card series.

Kudos to Dean. Especially after that forearm bruise.

ALDS ?? good to see someone staying positive around here.

In a 3 game Wild Card Series we get Burnes, Eflin, and Suarez going. We should have Grayson, Kremer, Povich, Webb, and Coloumbe, in the pen to help cover innings.

Offensively we will have back Westburg and Urias. Maybe Mounty and Kjerstad.

We are ok. Just gotta hit.

I’ve been waiting all year for Kremer to get on some kind of a roll, and it seems he’s finally on one.   In his last 6 starts, he’s thrown 5 quality starts, throwing 34.2 innings to a 2.62 ERA.  However, the O’s have only won 3 of those 6 starts.

Kremer is going to be one of those guys that we as posters were always looking to upgrade over, but when he's gone... we'll miss his production.  He's a solid #3.5 SP on a contender.

He gives us a chance to win most nights.

    • In Grich’s case, I think his OBP skills weren’t appreciated at the time.  He was a .266 lifetime hitter in an era when that was maybe 10 points above average, but his .371 OBP was more like 45-50 points above average.  But OBP just wasn’t very valued at the time.
    • We don’t have a current combo that is ideal. You have to go with the best possible grouping you have.
    • Yep, we're in agreement on the 70 rWAR threshold.  A championship would help Manny's cause, though I'm not sure if that's in the cards for him in the near future.  He needs a big moment on a big stage, too....as silly as that sounds, I do believe it matters in the eyes of some voters. Not to derail, but Whitaker is a guy that belongs in the HoF, too.  I'm not sure why Grich never got serious consideration.
    • I’ve always felt that 70 rWAR was the line between having to justify why someone shouldn’t be in the HOF versus justifying why they should.  In other words, if you’re over 70, there needs to be a reason for you NOT to be in.  There are 70 position players over 70 WAR, and the only ones not in are Bonds, Pujols (not yet eligible), Trout (not yet eligible), Rose, Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Raffy Palmeiro, Bobby Grich, and Carlos Beltran.  Really, only Dahlen, Whitaker and Grich have no obvious reason why they’re not in.  And I wouldn’t bet against Beltran getting in eventually.  He’s gotten  46% and 57% of the ballots his first two tries.
    • Recency bias: "Is a common distorting effect within systems of performance appraisal. It refers to the appraiser assessing employee performance, not on work undertaken across the full performance management cycle, but only on recent events or activities that can be readily recalled. Recency bias can be countered by keeping a record of appraisee performance over the full period of work that is being appraised." https://www.oxfordreference.com/display/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100407676
    • You're right, I shouldn't assume he's a hole. More of an unknown (11 career AB). Still, an outfield of Slater, one unknown, and one hole isn't exactly ideal. I think Mountcastle 1B/Santander RF is pretty clearly preferable to Santander 1B/Kjerstad RF vs LHP when you include defense.
    • I forget which game it was (Fri or Sat) but he also pulled a ball foul down the LF line that nearly snuck inside the pole. So he was close to having 2 HRs in the series
