Just weird all around.

I'm guessing Elias and Hyde felt Kemp was the best defender of the guys available.  Norby deserves a shot somewhere soon -- but he too is not known as a plus defender and unlike the others he's a right-handed hitter, which they already have in Mateo and Urias.

I don't think anyone cares about paying Kemp beyond thinking that money could have been better allocated elsewhere.
