One of the guys they got back was #47 in MLB. Which of Povich, McDermott, Norby and Wagner are that? They got Padres 2,4 and 5

Snelling was 44 on pipeline. They got their 2 best pitching prospects and 3rd best position prospect plus a flyer on Beshears.

One of the pitchers San Diego gave up (Snelling) is a top-50 in all of baseball prospect. Norby isn't in the top 100. Povich and McDermott aren't either. Kjerstad was.

That's fair. For some reason I thought Povich and McDermott were ranked in the top 100.

The Padres gave up the #44 overall prospect.  Neither Povich nor McDermott were close to that high, I'm not even sure they have ever cracked the top 100 (though I think Povich may have briefly.). Kjerstad is the closest to that #44 though a bit higher.  So it likely would have been Kjerstad plus some good but not quite top 100 guys.

That's fair. For some reason I thought Povich and McDermott were ranked in the top 100.

How so? I liken the pitchers SD traded to Povich and McDermott, and the hitters (two infielders ranked 5 and 27) to Norby (5) and Wagner (27).  Might actually be a bit heavy on the O's side. Where does Kjerstad come in?

You may be right.

I believe they both came in barely in the top 100 on Fangraphs most recent update.

Verducci just said, "When I checked in with the Orioles last month they were willing to put the chips in for Skubal, but Detroit just wasn't wanting to move him."

*this is not a word-for-word quote but close

I think the debate over starter vs relievers and what’s more sought after the deadline has been answered with that haul the Marlins got back for Tanner Scott.

I’d love to have an arm like that in the pen but for what it would have cost us.

Now we just need to find out the answer to what does McDermott look like out of the pen?

He should start relieving asap.

Erceg went for the Royals #11 prospect and two other pieces. Not sure what the O’s see in Rogers, but they must have valued him higher than 5 years of a hard throwing back inning reliever.

Needed impact starter, leverage reliever, and right handed outfielder.   Didn't get any of them.   Looks like they traded more for next year and waved white flag for 2024 ...

Eflin is an impact starter. Dominguez is a leverage reliever and if you think not trading for a bench RH bat is waving the white flag for a team in 1st place in the AL East at the trade deadline, then I'm not sure what to say.

Yeah, one that is 3 years older and not a former 1st round pick
