That's fair, he's been better than the rest.  I just think the issues are deeper than what Kjerstad can bring to the table but we'll see.

I'm skeptical, but he better be in the lineup tomorrow.

He won't be the savior but he's a piece in the puzzle.

For months I've read whining on here about how our top prospects have always failed to come up and produce right away.

So here we have Kjerstad who's coming off a concussion and has been a mixed bag (at best) in his limited playing time so far.

And we think he's going to help turn this offense around?  Does anyone here learn?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for playing him because he can't be much worse than what we've got going on right now but I don't believe he's an answer.

There are no answers, only Zuul.

But seriously, I think the issue at play here is we look at the body of work of guys like Eloy, Slater, O'Hearn, Rivera, and (to a lesser extent) Soto, you see where the holes are.

I get that O'Hearn was thrust into 1B near FT due to the Mountcastle injury, but that didn't explain Hyde from playing O'Hearn in the OF when he is one of the worst defensive OFers on this team.

Right now, this team is very much ailing. Ramon coming back will definitely help spell the need for O'Hearn to be a 1B by maybe letting Rivera play over there.

  • We need to get back to a point where O'Hearn is only hitting against righties and is playing sparingly in the field.
  • Eloy is a liability at this point. I was a proponent of seeing what mechanical tweaks they could make similar to what they did w/ Hicks (and even O'Hearn!) and they did catch lightning in a bottle maybe due to excitement/adrenaline and BABIP being unsustainably high, but right now his flyballs aren't carrying and his groundballs aren't finding holes, so there's probably a reason why Chicago is saying, "Haha, told you so!"
  • This team is in freefall offensively, at this point...just give the ABs to Mayo. You can't simultaneously say, "He needs to make adjustments!" and then let him have 5 ABs over 5 games. That isn't a way to grow a player. Not everybody can be a part time player and be effective off the bench/sparingly.
  • Kjerstad has shown an ability to hit lefties in the minors as well as in the majors (albeit in very limited time, he his 4 for 10 against them). Let the kid play.
  • Slater has fallen off a cliff, but at least he's a solid defensive OFer

I get it, nobody is going to solve the offensive woes of this team when it comes to the rookies/young guys. Mayo, Holliday, Kjerstad, even Cowser...they're all still adjusting. The change needs to come from the main stays. Now, Adley is starting to hit, Gunnar is back on a hitting binge, but this lineup desperately needs some consistent production from Tony to go along with it because right now way too much pressure is being put on the bottom of the lineup and the young guys. And I'm not convinced Westy solves any of those issues as wrist injuries are a beast to bounceback from quickly.

Snell on the bump. No chance Kjerstad is starting. Slater, Eloy, McCann, Rivera 🔥

Heston likes to swing early, huh?

He swung at the first pitch all five times today. 1/5 times it was in the zone, and he got a hit. 4/5 times they were out of the zone and he went down 0-1.

He’s always been a free swinger.

As I said before, I'm opposed to drug references for nicknames.

Yes Can your old druggie up here that likes Special K in the morning with his juice and coffee. Kellogg's Special K was my reference if you even eat cereal - but you just had to assume something else I guess. What I don't know and don't care to know but that's you.

Special K is a reference to Ketamine.

You know, you could have said, Can, I did not know it was a drug reference, I can see why you would be opposed to that.  Instead you accuse me of insinuating that you have a drug habit.

Do you think that giving a player the same nickname as a very common street name of a drug is a good idea?

But your default reaction to any sort of criticism is to attack the person that has the audacity to question you, well that and to harp on how old you are as if that is relevant information.

    • The game is already tied. If he gets thrown out, the O's still have a runner in scoring position and just one out. You really didn't have much to lose by sending him there, with a chance to end the game.
    • Yes.  He’s not a great bunter but at least try it once.   Santander was today’s choker.  He’s gotta be able to hit a freaking fly ball there.
    • Same exact question Ravens fans ask every season.  No killer instinct.  In the game’s biggest moments, they come up small.  Exactly what you saw today.  Pathetic
    • Should we have gone with a suicide or safety squeeze with Mullins? He might be better at bunting than hitting deep fly balls. Just a thought.
    • I agree with the second but not the first. If the first fails, that's an extra out. If the second fails then they just get an out at home instead of an out at first, which is not really relevant with Gunnar going to 3rd. For the first case I'd think you need to be like 80% to succeed for it to be right, but for the second like 20%.
    • Bump. Tonight's game wasn't just "winnable" -- it would have been one of the top 2-3 wins of the season. Down 2 in the 9th and we come out single, single, walk, double to tie the game and have two of our fastest runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, with our 2-3-4 hitters coming up next.  And our guys gagged. They wilted under pressure. They choked.  Again.  This has happened so many times this season that I believe we need to consider the real possibility that the Orioles as currently constructed lack the character, stamina, -- the heart, if you will -- to win games like this. I think these players fail so often because they expect to fail. I remember after we won it all in '83 reporters were interviewing Ken Singleton in the locker room and one of them asked if the Orioles had been lucky. "You make your own luck" he responded. Well, the 2024 Orioles are making their own bad luck over and over again. How does that cycle of failure come to an end? I wish I knew.
    • I know the OH hates Holliday, but it's a no brainer keeping him over Soto. We're talking about bench players who are going to, at most, have a small role in a few games. Soto has no pop and is slow. He's a warm body as it is. Holliday's ability to run can be very useful in the playoffs.
