Perfect time to make a roster move or two

No. They could keep him up longer than that though. Maybe thru end of month.

I doubt it happens.

I just doubt they bring him up now. Let him play the next 2 games and get the at bats in AAA.

Well, depends on whether you want extra rest for the other 4 guys.

The 5th game after the break is at MIA. Technically if they wanted guys to go every 5 days could wait until 27th vs SD to use a #5. That said we are talking about him missing only one start.

I agree. Just saying if they wanted to get his feet wet. It does cause a 40 man move obviously. AAA has 4 day break also coming up.

We have to be getting pretty damn close to the bottom of the barrel with BP guys. Baker, Burch Smith, Vinny Nattoli. I guess at least Smith looked decent in his first appearance last night

They’ve been pretty good at getting effective bullpen pieces off the scrap pile

I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever heard the name Vinny Nattoli. I have to assume he’s a real player since that’s a Roch tweet but it’s odd because I typically at least have heard of these dudes before they get to the ML team.

Vinny Nattoli sounds like the guy who owns a pizza shop here in West Springfield MA.

The 5th game after the break is on 7/24, so can't we just bring up Povich then? He would have been down for 11 days at that point (starting today). So, we wouldn't necessarily have to have Irvin make a start against Miami.

They picked him up last week. He actually has a pretty solid resume. I'm interested to see him.

This guy could be the next Felix B.....

This is his 9th team. The Mariners, Jays, Diamondbacks, Yankees, Phillies, Cubs, Mets and A's couldn't get anything useful out of him. Maybe the 9th time is the charm.

Pitchers have to be down 15 days.

    • I’d prefer they let Mayo try to get his bat going and use Urias as his defensive replacement in most games, but I’m fine with them letting Urias split starts since they reasonably could think he gives them a better chance to win right now. They just better not keep Mayo on the MLB roster the rest of the season and lose his ROY eligibility for next year if he’s going to be riding the bench in a lot of games. Play him half time, let him figure out what he needs to work on, send him back to AAA for a couple weeks to play everyday and work on those adjustments. Ideally once Westburg has come back, if the timing permits.
    • Thanks Tony.  I think it's good that you give people a fairly wide latitude, but one of the things that makes this place so enjoyable is that the rules are enforced.  On other boards, it's like Beyond Thunderdome out there.  I'm all for giving people multiple chances, but that guy was just insufferable.
    • Hey, I too have very high hopes for Coby Mayo. But right now, I think Urias gives us a better chance to win. And winning down the stretch has to be the priority
    • This is pretty much the best case scenario. Based on the past experiences, Elias wouldn’t be doing the press conference if there weren’t at least one major injury to report on as out for the year. Grayson got his imaging done at the same time so maybe he’ll address him too. Note that there’s no press conference for Westburg, Mateo, Coulombe - probably because they still expect them back this year. I’m expecting Grayson is going to be out for the year with Webb, but maybe we’ll be lucky.
    • Yes, if there’s one thing we’ve learned this year it’s that you don’t need bullpen depth.
    • That would be my guess too Elias only gives injury updates to the press when a player is out for the season. That’s probably Webb in this case and hoping the news on Grayson is that he’s on track for a September return even if it’s towards the of the month.
    • Yeah, this is where I've arrived too; altho, I did have him maybe as a Santander replacement.  But now I think it's a lot of money to commit to with somebody who has seemed sort of broken until this recent surge.  My initial replacement thought was based merely on his name, but his performance over 2 years, even if manages to go on a tear, doesn't meet the pay requirement.  I think they try to work something out with Tony Taters and let this Eloy help us all he can for now, but at the end of the season he gets his parting gifts and go to rebuild his career on another team at a much lower pay rate.
