Is this a thread about the Yankees "defense"? ;)

Position 403 is the shortstop in the ninth dimension.  It's a really tricky throw to first from there so I'm not surprised that he made an error.

This is a great site, no doubt. But for a few weeks I get 403 errors when I try to post. I've only been able to get a few to go through like this one. I know this is frustrating for Tony too. Fingers crossed things will start working properly soon.

The 1890 Brooklyn Gladiators of the Player's League also made exactly 403 errors. I believe they and the '99 Senators are the only MLB teams to have accomplished this feat.

I don't know a whole lot about the Gladiators. They were thrown together during the labor disputes of 1890 and the league only lasted that one season. They went 26-73-1, and none of their players really stand out. I recognize their second baseman, Push-'em-Up (or Move Up depending on your sources) Joe Gerhardt (no relation to 1980s O's outfielder Ken Gerhart), but he OPS'd .539 that year. Third baseman Jumbo Davis (listed at 5'11", 195) was their best hitter, but only played 38 games and made 25 errors. 35-year-old Move Up made 47 errors in 95 games.

    • From MLBTradeRumors today: "The Phils acquired Austin Hays in a buy-low deadline pickup. Philadelphia projected Hays as at worst a right-handed platoon partner for Marsh in left field. Hays spent most of his Phillies tenure on the injured list and didn’t produce in limited playing time. He hit .256/.275/.397 with 19 strikeouts and no walks in 80 plate appearances after the trade. MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projects Hays for a $6.4MM salary in his final season of arbitration. He’s likely to be non-tendered. The Phils could stick with utility player Weston Wilson as a platoon partner with Marsh. The other outfield spots are areas for potential improvement, though neither is without complications."   What a fall from grace for Hays, from All Star to fringe MLB player in a year. It reminds me a bit of Trey Mancini after he left the O's. If he gets non-tendered, do you think the O's would consider him on a one-year deal? He's younger and better than Austin Slater, playing a similar role.
    • In fairness to Hyde, his pinch hitters had the best batting average in baseball this season. And it wasn't even close.
    • TBH, I don't know what wins playoff games since I support a team that doesn't win any of them. Watching these playoffs, I am still getting used to the idea that hitters from other teams can actually come through. Even the much maligned Giancarlo Stanton can do it now.  But, we have a good offensive philosophy.  So we could always make no changes and just assume things will work out better next year.  We seem more comfortable with the "minimal or no changes" approach to things anyway.
    • I hear The Crow is available!!!!!!!!! 😄
    • Actually, if the Os were to move on from their hitting coaches, this is precisely the guy they would hire. Atlanta mirrors our approach in many ways.  And he has worked with a ton of young hitters. And he has a relationship with our pitching coach. So this is worth discussing because despite the craziness of Os social media, the Os are rightfully not going to change their approach to hitting since they put up great numbers across the board outside of walk%.   Since they aren’t going to change their approach, a coach that preaches similar things is what they would look for…and Seitzer fits that perfectly.
    • Everything besides hitting and pitching coaches
    • Just ignore him. He’s just miserable all the time.
