Is Holliday the most important player in 2025?

In general I do think we do have to be concerned with wear and tear on Adley because he's a catcher and catchers have a pretty short life expectancy in MLB.  I'd really like to think we are nowhere close to that level with him though.

Of course Wieters blew out his elbow and he wasn't really the same catcher defensively after that.  So it's tough to say.  But he's definitely not a guy I'd be super thrilled about extending.

Adley OPSes like .900 until he gets hit in the hand, takes a few games off because of lower back issues, and now he's an old frat boy?  Like holy crap.

He said fat not frat.

I don't feel confident judging his level of fitness by what I see of him in uniform on my computer monitor.  Maybe if I had an 80 inch OLED I could better judge.

It ain't gonna help you unless you have an 8k mlb.tv feed.

I don't think so. Holliday might be most important to the future but I don't think he's critical right now. We have good infield options even if he struggles.

To me getting Adley back on track is priority #1. If Adley is worse than Blake Hunt, we are losing like 5-6 WAR of expected production. If Holliday struggles, we still have Westburg/Urias and maybe even Mayo.

I do think Elias was hoping Holliday and/or Mayo would provide a boost over Urias, and that obviously didn't happen.

This team doesn’t need depth options to put them over the top. They need stars…elite talent.

Doesn't need to be Holliday though. If you get two out of Westburg, Cowser, Kjerstad to step forward and be .850 OPS guys, the lineup should improve dramatically.

Sure…but if Cowser does that, he goes from being a 4 WAR guy to what, a 5 WAR guy?  Westburg similar. Kjerstad would cause a big jump in production but that also depends on how often he plays. Is he a platoon guy or is doing that for 500+ at bats. And what does his defense do to his value?

Holliday completely changes the offense.

Adley had no injuries. Elias had said, Hyde had said it and Adley himself has said it. I get it. It’s a defense mechanism. Hoping that a player is hurt when they suck. And I didn’t say frat boy. I said fat boy. Which he is. You shouldn’t overweight as a 25 year old superstar athlete.

Hey Sportsguy, I have a question for you. How much WAR do we need as a team to win a playoff series?

Adley himself said he was working through some things, which is clearly code for "I was hurt."  He had a documented low back issue that avoided the IL but caused him to miss a couple games, and was hit on the hand while catching which coincided with a massive rest-of-year slump.  I am not buying that he wasn't banged up.

Bro trust me. I hope he was dealing with something serious. Because we are in BIG BIG trouble if he was healthy these last few months.
