Could we get Stephen Strasburg with the 5th pick?

This friggin guy threw a No-No today and is the sickest College pitcher I've seen in quite a long time. Dude throws 102 mph heat. No joke.

Question is... Can we get him with the 5th pick? He is a Borus client, and is looking to get 50 million over 4 years. Nationals GM Jim Bowden says he will draft him, but can they afford to give that kind of money? That's 40 million more than Prior's record setting deal in 2001.

Seattle has the 2nd pick, and will want to save money to resign Bedard and possibly Beltre. Don't know if they would pay Strasburg, but I personally think they would.

San Diego has the third pick. No way they pay him. They need to shed salary.

Pittsburg has the 4th pick. I don't think they have the cash either.

I don't think he'd drop to us. But if he did... I'd freak the F out.

A few things more likely than Strasburg falling to us:

-DCab getting a hit in his next at bat - and it's a double

-Sports Illustrated having an Oriole player on its cover this year

-Cal having a press conference next week admitting that he took steroids

-Ortiz not homering this season

-Luis Hernandez turning into a future All Star

So you're saying he will fall to us? When Wieters wins rookie of the year in spectacular fashion, he'll be on there.

I wouldn't take him. Too much uncertainty for that money.

Heat doesn't make a good pitcher.

I hope you're kidding. The only knock against Strasburg is the injury potential. That's it. If you only think he's being considered the greatest prospect ever because he throws heat, you haven't actually done any studying.

Everyone does realize that Jim Bowden resigned back in March, right? He's no longer in baseball.

That being said, there's no way Stephen Strasburg falls to the fifth pick. No way. There is a chasm between him and the next bext prospects, injury risk or not.
